Fitness Height Physique do matter and one needs to understand that Varun n Umesh r strong Tall guys...they shud be nurtured n groomed ahead of street smart guys like vinay and Praveen ..why these guys r street smart bcos they are in Class 12th of cricket where as Vinay Umesh sudeep tyagi are in class 5th but they have the basic ingredients to beat the best... Think of Future not just Present......if u groom Praveen, Vinay and Munaf, they can't improve further,they r already Street smart but on bouncy tracks u will need the Pace too, The talent too...praveen Vinay Munaf are averagely talented fast medium( shud I say slow) but street smart....I kinda know that our Spinners won't get friendly tracks in Windies and the extra fast bowlers of Windies will give us Good fight and we will either Win 3-2 or will loose 2-3... If india looses selectors need to understand that one needs to select battery of fast bowlers when they go to west Indies...and not slow bowlers n spinners...Except Ishant, I don't see any other bowler becoming preety successfull in west indies 6 one days... Ishant will take at least 12 or more wickets in 6 one days if he plays in all WI one days...n will also not be expensive..if Munaf suddenly increases his pace he may also suceed else he will be thrashed and Vinay may get Wickets but would also be Costly... Bhajji and ashwin will be ecomical and Mishra will be thrashed as he will get FLAT tracks and he will hardly turn n he will not continue for test matches

He is a good keeper but you can't add him in the expense of a batsmen or a keeper(which is Captain COOL). So yea this preety much nails it on why he can't grab a spot. And you are right bout his batting inconsistency ...
Ramzz Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 He is a good outfielder and has the technique to open in test cricket. He gave us good starts during the last Eng tour. He couldn't carry on to make big ones and that is his problem. More to do with patience and concentration. Has to believe in his own ability.

Sums up his career. Good technique as he showed in Tests in England and SA but he just lacks the concentration to make really match changing scores consistently.

He is one of those guy who is happy to live under shadows of big guns and doesn't come out.

gult Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Not underrated. His style of play suits this format. He scores quick 20-30 runs and fields well. I remember him throwing his wicket after 30 runs even in tests with a slog over mid wicket
