CoverDrive Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 DO you guys feel that there are some people who are crowing more about their franchise winning than Indian team doing well. These guys are typically those that would not follow test cricket or in general not big cricket fans but guys with very strong feelings about home state/cities. I would generally not care but sometimes this gets irritating
EnterTheVoid Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Mumbai to win the IPL. I got a picture of them holding the cup tattooed on my left ass cheek
Gotham Cronie Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 It's just due to small-time rivalries that arise between cities during the tournament. I know it happens during Pakistan's Twenty20 tournament too between cities like Karachi and Lahore. Once it's over, the whole country unites again for the national team.
vamos_rafa Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Yeah. Its nice at times to have the rivalries. Infact I think from a sporting perspective, we dont have such heavy weight rivalries in IPL like the one's between say a Barcelona and Real Madrid or Ny Yankees and Boston Red Sox. I know its because the IPL is played only in a span of 2 months so the passions are not able to run that high but I would prefer that to develop as well. And regarding India, I don't think the fan base or the players are naive enough to not to support team India.
yoda Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Stupid thread. Guess you were missing when the whole board here went crazy after our WC win.
ganeshran Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Pheck you, Times Now!! Caught a glimpse of Times Now in the office cafeteria - with the headline "Did Gambhir feign ignorance over his injury"? This guy was the 6th highest scorer in the World cup. Played a crucial inning in the quarter final. Single handedly rescued us from 31/2 in the world cup final and was the highest scorer of the match of the decade for India!! And the media questions his commitment to the national side? Gambhir has performed brilliantly in crunch matches and never shies from a pressure situation and the media repays his contributions by questioning his integrity?? Pheck you Times now
Sachin=GOD Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Indian Media :adore: :adore: They won't blame the ones who are responsible for this (Team owners and BCCI) rather they'll blame the player who most probably has been forced to play since this was an "important" tamasha game
kubrickian Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I have noticed Times Now especially have an axe to grind against Dhoni and the team for some reason. Anyone knows why ? They were so eager to criticize for the silliest of reasons during the WC but praise for the victory was less than forthcoming even a few days after the win. WC win was a slap on the face for some channels like Times Now and especially that fat motor mouth loser Boria Majumar and they are still bitter about it.

ravishingravi Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I am as big a Hater of Indian media as anyone else. I would put a bounty on Goaswami if it was possible. BUT I think there are some pertinent question that this issue brings to the fore. 1) Gambhir sustained the injury in WC and was carrying a serious shouler injury knowing that it can get aggravated and he can lose India matches. 2)Gambhir has been in first class cricket for about 10 years or more. If he says he cannot pick up the ball and throw or had difficulties in the previous matches, then the question is does he need the physio's report. It seems like a cop out. He is simply passing the buck. An international cricketer knows his physical status and knows the risks he is playing with. And if a physion has to be consulted it has to be the India one, not KKR one. Obviously his interest is in getting you fit. Ofcourse as I said I dont buy this paplu excuse. Gambhir knew exactly the chances he was taking. 3)It is IPL over India. I am not sure what people are arguing about. If players are playing IPL through injuries, knowing fully well that they can miss India matches, is there any other way to read it. Money can blur the lines for the most patriotic of players. I can remember some wrist sliiters defending their right to play. Well media is definitely right in question their priorities. This issue will be taken up seriously once India lose ODIs in WI and get hammered in England. With the way things are going, I fancy snobbish English side to be No.1 team in test in next year or so, rest assured
Ramzz Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Well, GG was probably forced by KKR/BCCI to play. He was the highest paid player...no way KKR would let go of him.
Tigerbait Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Anyone who questions Gambhir's commitment needs to have their head examined. He is through and through a team player and a great example setter for the next generation of players.
