His technique is ugly, just cuz he has nice lookin shots dsnt mean he will succeed after countless failures. dont bring in "tendu took 76 innings to get going", he cant even clean god's boots.

Badri seems destined to be a nearly man , now on grounds of age more than anything , but before we rend our sackcloth and ashes , wailing as we go , remember Kaif , etc. At least in this day and age they have the IPL riches to console them , unlike Salim Durrani for instance, phew was he glad his boat came in, finally !! Even Rohit is not Badri's real problem , that will be the phalanx of Kohli,Pujara,Rayudu,Rahane etc . Let alone Raina Yuvi et al. It's a shame, as his temperament is made for Tests,and that's rarer than his other gifts which are(see above) available elsewhere. Rohit I can see becoming a Kambli to Pujara's (or Kohli's ) Sachin . His talent is really special . He would do himself the biggest favour by doing a Zak ie. the hard yards of an English season , to me it would signal how thirsty he is to be the best rather than just another fat cat. Time will tell . Maybe fate will see Badri stand in for an injury struck stalwart , and destiny will crown him with an unforgettable knock from which he does not look back for the next 5 years , leaving us all looking silly ! In which case , he would be amongst the one's who's worked hardest and on that level deserves it the most. But in the meantime countering the low slow Windies tracks is his focus especially given the likelihood he won't have many overs to play with. The prospect of facing the man mountains of perfidious Albion displaying their alarming bounce and swing on an English greentop,@ about 90mph, over a 90 over day-just to taste life amongst the top echelon, is all a million miles away, so to speak. If I were him I'd curse the day God sent me into the world only 6-7 years after one Rahul Dravid, because whilst India have had the Wonderwall , they can hardly be blamed for not looking much further. Will fate cast the runes again ? Play up , Play up and play the game !!
Sachinism Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Its been tough for Badri, but he hasn't really grasped the chances provided to him with both hands. Now is a good opportunity for him to do it, but will he be able to? Even if he does perform, is he really guaranteed to be going to England (considering he has a very good tour of WI)? It can become tough for one to motivate themselves after being constantly knocked down

vvvslaxman Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 The thing is Dinesh Karthik, Vijay all were playing under Badrinath if i am right. Karthik got the chance as he could keep and later he could open. Vijay got the chance because he could open. Unfortunately he is one of those guy who is another middle order batsman. So many useless openers have come and gone just because they were openers. But better middle order batsmen couldn't cut it because they were not openers.
gsivak Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Badri is not the most super talented but he is player we can trust when the chips are down. Ideally I would like him in the test team. Right now with Dravid's waning powers we do need another person with wall like capabilities. Badri would be a good choice. Because age is not on his side, he has to turn out awesome performance one after another to convince the selectors to invest in him.

I look at him and he seems someone who is destined to not play much for India. The less said about Rohit, the better. Anyways, I hope both perform well in the WI tour.

Although Rohit has got more chances than Badri, Badri has been more consistent than him in the Ranji Trophy. Class wise, both are equal and there is very little to separate them. Fielding wise Badri has the edge, even though Rohit isn't a bad fielder. It is very hard to locate a difference between the two of them. They are both classy and elegant to watch. I think they have better temperament than Kohli and Raina and are more suitable for Tests. But Kohli's performance cannot be undermined. He has been one of the most consistent performers in the Indian side and therefore he will be an obvious choice before Badri and Rohit, which is the right thing. So only if they can pull their socks up and show some consistency in the Windies tour, they will be selected regularly in the side.

It's better late than never to give him an extended run. Also he is right in the middle of the maturity patch for a batsman...28 to 32 and his batsmanship can bring in more than just the technicalities...his nous and experience to deal with situations can be used now. In a way, giving Badri an extended go is a better option than blooding a novice now. Badri will come good within a few innings (if at all he needs that space) and play some crucial knocks...like bail us out even though he may look ugly while doing so. And he also has confidence going for him right now. Seems like IPL has helped him reconcile with his bad luck and he looks to be in a much calmer state of mind than the frustrated state of mind he was in back in 2008...given one ODI here, one Test there only to be dropped without any solid reason. He is ripe for us to make our own Hussey, now

Look at Mukunds stats. Admittedly, he has played only 28 games, but he has already scored more than 1500 runs in them. Mentor this kid instead of nohit and papu patel.
