Ravi Shastri has accomplished more than Ghavri in test cricket. I would even open with him. He has scored a 200 opening in Aus in the 90s. I would open bowling with ZK and SMG, and play RJS instead of Ghavri. 3 spinners would be good on spin pitches. Shivalkar is unknown in International cricket. So, he could be in the reserves, not in playing XI.

In Tests it's the bowling which wins you matches and the only way Bombay would manage a win would be if the game were played on a rank turner. On a flat deck or pace/swing/seam friendly conditions Barbados should win easily.

I Likes the thread :woot: Would Polly Umrigar, for Vengsarkar, be worth considering? About on par as a batsman? And bowled handy offies. Also do you want Merchant and Mankad to swap places? Just to make it a fascinating triangular heres a NSW team :D Trumper Morris Bradman S Waugh A Border N Harvey A Gilchrist Lindwall Lee/Davidson McGrath O Reilly

I would have Merchant (one of the great openers of Indian cricket) open with Gavaskar, arguably Ind's best test player. I don't know who Padmkar is. Is he better than Sir Aggy? Munaf is playing for Mumbai Indians too so may be he can be considered too but against that Barbodas batting line up, I don't know how effective Mumbai bowlers would be except for Gupte, and maybe Mankad and Zak to some extent. Mumbai's batting line up is pretty good with Vensarkar probably being the weakest link if playing in WI.

Shivalkar was a left arm spinner I believe, a very good one who because of the spin riches in India in the 70's did not get a chance to play. Would have walked into any other teams XI. Sunil Gavaskar has him down as on of his Idols in the book of that name. Another great spinner in that book Rajinder Goel who too was unlucky to be born in the era. There is V V Kumar a leggie who only got one or two tests but should haved played more. If only those guys had been born 50 yrs later Shivalkars FC record Mat Balls Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 4w 5w 10 First-class 124 34125 11603 589 8/16 19.69 2.04 57.9 42 13

Hmmm, then on a turning track Mumbai would fancy its chances (probably many would rate it as a fav), esp. with Gupte (arguably Ind's best spinner), Mankad and Shivalkar.

Batting lineup aint too shabby either... wonder who any Barbados-ian spinners are? Also if that Mumbai XI were to change to a West Zone XI..would it be any different?

Yeah, Umrigar can definitely come in place of Vengsarkar, though for me Vengsarkar would edge it due to his record against the West Indies - sure he made most of his runs at home, but still had 6 test hundreds against them. The NSW team is probably the best in my view - they even have the luxury of playing Benaud as the second spinner on a turning track in place of Davidson. The middle order is just nuts - Bradman, Waugh, Border, Harvey!

With the NSW bench they could probably put in a second XI with the likes of Taylor, Slater, MacGill, Benaud, Noble, Simpson, McCabe, Lee, Lawson, M Waugh, Katich, Clarke, Watson, Bollinger!

Karnataka XI would have a good bowling attack, but would be severely depleted in batting with the likes of Flathappa (maybe I am missing some names here) : 1. Uthappa 2. Binny 3. Dravid 4. Viswanath 5. Brijesh Patel 6. Kunderan 7. Kirmani 8. Kumble 9. Srinath 10. Prasanna 11. Chandra
