To you it may be "irrelevant" but not to me. The sight of my team's fast bowler backing down while batsman is having a go at him is not something I'm proud about especially since all of the opponent teams' pacers were waiting in line to have a piece of our batsmen. As I mentioned inone of my posts above that this incident makes me biased against Srinath. There are some moments which always stick with you as a fan and rightly or wrongly whenever I think of Srinath that moment always comes back to me. You can call me prejudiced but for me Srinath will always be someone who would go down without a fight and would perform well but be happy to lose.
Your post says it all .... I don't need to say anything Fact: Srinath is the best fast bowler (may be the best bowler, if home and away performances are taken into account. Kumble didn't do that well early on in his career), Ind has had since the 2nd half of 90s :hatsoff:

and the sight of a batsman barking at a bowler who has come to check if he is alright is a sign of a grade dick-ery. Ponting was an a-hole and this is one of the many instances that made me hate him, the classless git. There are many ways to stand up to your opponent, i prefer the route Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Kumble took.

He may well be but if I have to go with someone at the crunch if my life depended on it, it would be Zaheer not Srinath. A chain is as strong as the weakest link and I don't think I can count on Srinath when the going gets tough.

this i agree with. the reason why i would rate zaheer more than srinath was because of his consistancy. As one of my friends said, there was once a time when you could depend on Kumble to do something on indian pitches, no matter what the match situation was, now the same can be expected from Zaheer. Sadly, Srinath never me the same level of confidence.

I guess, per you Ind would still have won w/o his spell .... All I ever thought was Sri was one of the strongest link of the chain, my bad :P

It does not but when the batsman asks you to GFO and you go back to your bowling mark without so much as a word with head bowed it sure does. I am all for grace in victory and the likes of Dravid' date=' Tendulkar and Laxman signify the same, and I would never want someone to mouth off continuously like Andre Nel or Sreesanth, but at the same time you have to stand up for yourself and the team. You can't just turn back on your heels with a bowed head as a fast bowler. Zaheer is a perfect example - he doesn't mouth off unnecessarily or throw tantrums but you won't see him back off against batsmen or making batsmen's stay enjoyable out in the middle. Jelly Bean instance is one of the example. Even the WI team of 80s were generally well liked and didn't overdo stuff but I am 100% sure no team or batsman in the world would even dream of treating any of their bowlers the way Ponting did Srinath. And Srinath took it all lying down is what makes it hard to digest.[/quote']Well, you need to understand that the world is made up of different kinds of individuals. Srinath is not the kind of individual who would talk back. Just accept it and move on...Venky was an individual who would talk back after he got the batsman out. Kumble wasn't a guy who would talk back. Rahul, Lax, and Buddha aren't guys who talk back. Dada is a guy who talks back. Viru dunn talk back. Gauti does. Each one has his own personality and I'd rather have them be comfortable with who they are than instill some stupid notion of aggression. remember this pal, all five fingers are not the same and trying to make them the same will essentially lose you the functionality of your hand. Just coz someone dunn fall down to the level of a convict dunn mean he is bad for the team or dunn stand up for himself. What is there to stand up for himself in that incident? I think Srinath was the smarter of the two - he probably realized Pawning's ego was hurt and felt there was no point in behaving like the convict. I have rarely seen Wasim and Waqar act like uncivilized convicts...they had the determination too, right? Why should you ape some other team's ways? Why can't you be comfortable in your own skin?

I am not saying talk back but at least show some aggression out there. There are various ways to do that and at the very least stand your ground, maybe stare down the batsman, maybe throw a ball to the keeper zipping it close to the batsman. I mean do anything you want to but at least portray some aggressive body language. Don't just turn back and walk back to the top of your run up with head bowed. Wasim & Waqar didn't mouth off much but at the same time they never acted the way Srinath did.

If a person is not the kinds who finds validation and strength in standing his ground for a meaningless cause then no amount of artificial conditioning will help. if it was Cheeka, maybe he would've gone and slapped Pawning. If it was Shastri, maybe he would have given Pawning a piece of his mind. If it was Sachin he would've ignored Pawning. If it was Ajay Jadeja he would've mocked Pawning. When it was Srinath, he chose to walk back. Nothing wrong in it. I want a team that plays and behaves like the way they are. True to oneself. If pseudo aggression is not part of their system then they shouldn't be forced into it. Srinath had a different personality and what matters is whether he contributes to the team or not...and contribution in terms of taking wickets not in terms of how many abuses he hurls at the opposition. I hope our kids these days don't buy into convicthood and convict ways of playing the game. I want my team to play with grace. But if there are individuals who like to give it back I am comfy with that. What I am not comfy with is pseudo aggression.

Q4NST8PVMJo 6/21 at A'bad against Aus :hatsoff: .... That was his first 5-for (iirc) and the beginning of his rise as the most effective pace bowler from sub continent from 1996-2001 Spells like those made him the hero
His S/R from 1996-2001 is even better than Kumble's .... ^here we have Ganguly opening with Srinath so you could imagine the importance of Srinath's spells .... With spells like these, he used to make it easy for our spinners DkmmEIRHZJE&feature=related ^ a video from ICF he has always been good againt SA, which was a strong side of his time and ofc good players of pace I think Ind was lucky to have Srinath esp with how he bowled in late 90s and early 00s .... Zak, even though Ind top bowler at the moment, is not as good as Srinath. Given how the retired players are treated at ICF, I won't be surprised if Zak gives Sri some competition on threads at ICF .... On cricket field, Srinath would be the top dog :icflove:
These are some fiery spells..especially against England. He was fast, beating the batsmen with pace and movement. Against England. I think he is certainly looking 145K plus or may 150K...awesome video that...Never seen this kind of fast bowling from any Indian fast bowler. Srinath...Legend:hatsoff:

Zaheer is still playing' date=' so your thread is :fail:[/quote'] you always got to be like this? Ok compare zaheer's performance to this date .. fine?

^And you always take my posts seriously ? :icflove: I was kidding re baba, Its got to be Srinath for his fitness, Zak is too bad in that department. But a fully fit Zak > Srinath anyday :agree:

Srinath was the quickest bowler India ever produced. Zaheer is a superb bowler but he is only a medium pacer. He knows how to swing and seam the ball and set up the batsmen. Both bowlers have been less effective than they could be because of lack of support from other pacers.
