i agree with earlier comment. Zaheer now > Srinath Ever.. but.... Srinath was more consistent if you look at the whole span of their careers... anyways.. we relay heavily on Zaheer in the England Series and hopefully he'll come thru !

Till about a year or two ago Srinath would have been the second medium pacer to make it to an all time India XI for me. But now it is time to revise that opinion and have Zak in there. Although Zak could touch 145 early in his career he never bowled faster than Srinath in his prime. Srinath would bowl at 93-94 mph during a 4 year stretch between 95 and 99. But Zak has acquired more variety than Srinath especially with the older ball. Although Srinath learned to bowl well on Indian tracks he did not have the variety as Zak. Very importantly Srinath was never a bowler like Zak whom you know if you throw the ball to him a wicket is guaranteed. Zak just knows how to get even well settled batsmen out.

Zak has grown to become a better and more consistant bowler. he knows how to use the conditions so, so well. still has a few years to go too. i would be very surprised if his overall avg isnt sub 30 (more like 28-29) by the end of his career.

Srinath from 1996-2001, he was the most effective pace bowler from the sub-continent picking up 170 wkts in just 39 tests .... picking up 10 5-fors in this period .... his stunning performance against SA to win the test at A'bad on this own is yet to be replicated by an Indian pace bowler in India (post 90s) .... He used to do this w/o the help of other pacer putting the pressure from the other end LINK PS Paki posters wouldn't be too happy to know that because all we hear is Wasim and Waqar doing well but this period belonged to Srinath

Whole career Zaheer > Srinath. Peak of Srinath > Peak of Zaheer. Pace of Srinath >> Pace of Zaheer. Talunt wise Zaheer >> Srinath. In a way, Srinath overperformed while Zaheer underperformed. Glad we have Zaheer after Srinath retired. Srinath never could bowl slower ones, nor yorkers. He had a stock delivery which would come in. Both are good against lefthanders.

Srinath was very unlucky on more than one occassion, he was an absolutely terrific bowler.

Srinath was more talented while Zaheer is the smarter of the two . Sri was like Sharma in the early part of his career , short wide but a touch fatser which probabaly was teh difference ...he was a different bowler from ~99 , lost a bit of pace but was unplayable in some of his spells , its that period where he started pitching the ball up ...am hoping Sharma learns that at amuch earlier stage than Sri did.

What peak are you referring to??
On the top of my head the foillowing peaks. I stand corrected. They have similar peak averages, but ZK has better SR. Srinath had lesser support in his peak period. ZK went for more runs initially , that explains his higher career average. From 1995-1996 - 1999-00 - Srinath. unfiltered 67 2517.2 7196 236 8/86 13/132 30.49 2.85 64.0 10 1 filtered 31 1190.2 3572 127 8/86 13/132 28.12 3.00 56.2 6 1 2006-07- 2010-2011 - Zaheer. unfiltered 78 2626 8658 271 7/87 10/149 31.94 3.29 58.1 10 1 filtered 36 1299.1 4260 150 7/87 10/149 28.40 3.27 51.9 7 1

I feel Zak is much more talented than what Srinath was. And I think Srinath bowled better in the ODIs only after he made a comeback after the CT 2002. He was pitching it up more than what he was doing in ODIs prior 2002. And developed a Out going delivery. For me he was bowling best then, though Pace was much down.

^ honestly I have come to hate the word 'talent' these days , anyway what i mean was ..Sri could swing both ways even when he started , although with not mauch control .. Zaheer was motsly straight , but has developed his skills and arguably more dangerous now ..but if I had to pick one of these two , Sri was a natural .
