Ok Maybe I am a bit too harsh on PK and his performance is definetely commendabale.All I am trying to say is we cant pick and choose bowlers as per conditions all the time . PK is a stock bowler but not a permenant solution like many here are making him out to be.

huh... u don't get it? or trolling as always. Theoretically there can always be a better performance than any that actually happens - out there in the field. This does not mean you discredit the performer who actually did and not in your dreams! Even Marshall (& few more) could have bowled better than every spell he himself ever bowled - Does that mean he got those wickets because others bowled badly??

I already said that if a bowler like PK can get 3 wkts, better bowling sides could have bowled Eng out for around 300 To me PK, Ishant and Bhajji are on the same level. I would start out with Zak and Sree, the two wkt taking options in this squad. I would have started out with Zak, Sree, Ishant and Bhajji but the bigger issue for me is someone like Sree, a potential wkt taker not playing. PK in for Ishant/Bhajji is not a big issue for me

My only problem with your argument is that you believe that Sreesanth will deliver, the trouble is 7/10 times he won't. The question you should really ask is should we have picked Sree in place of Harby. Based on harby's form and the Lord's pitch there is no justification for that. We should really have played 4 seamers. Try my argument on for size.

I don't think Sree is a great bowler or something. Neither am I his big fan (if you had read some of my other posts, you would have realized that) but from the option we have, he has one of the best abilities to pick wkts up. He could swing, reverse with the old ball and bowl quick too. And to me, a bowler with better ability starts out unless he is injured or something. We are not guaranteeing performances here. Note PK's wkts came with the new ball. I am talking about a far bigger pictures including bowling with the older ball. Unless the contention is that PK is a better test bowler than Sree, I don't see why someone like PK should be selected over him

So the situation would not have changed for the better in any ways Rett, though it had the potential of getting much worse BTW, Rett other bowlers could not pick a single wicket with either new or old ball. Unfortunately we don't but I still beleive PK will be ineffective against the tail and lower order when they look to swing their bats at everything. Generally we always struggle to get the tail out for the same reason but you tell me For all their mediocrity would you beleive in Ishanth or even Sreeshanth to clean up the tail or PK at his pace? Yes I agree he bowled very well today but once the ball gets old then what???He did his role perfectly today,got wickets in the first few overs with the new ball but isn't the main bowler's task to be effective throughout the innings. I still hope he proves me wrong though but on past experience I still think PK is not a primary choice in our fast bowling pecking order

Come which of our main bowlers were effective throughout the innings? Even Zaheer took both his wickets with a new ball. Ishant and Bhajji? Praveen bowleed quite well with an old ball yesterday

I am not disagreeing with all this. My simple question is why sree wasn't picked ahead of harby? That way you would genuinely have had more wicket taking options.

He didn't get a chance to bowl at a stage when the ball starts to reverse, did he? If we had someone like Sree, we could have potentially used the old ball better :winky:
