Easily my most favorite commentator in world cricket right now. The fact that he isn’t coy about disclosing personal anecdotes from the field or dressing room shenanigans, easily separates him from the rest of the pack. When Dada opens his mouth, I involuntarily edge closer to the laptop screen. :nice: And waaaaah – what incredible belief and confidence he has, on this Indian team. I was crying buckets after day 5 of the first test defeat at Lords, but he was like ‘Big deal, we always lose in the first test of an away series..No worries, we’ll bounce back…:bandit: Contrast this to that depressing drivel that Sanjay Manjrekar dishes out..:headshake: One more thing I’ve found about Dada – The guy knows his batting inside out, 100 PERCENT. His mind is always seems to be whirring, trying to figure out what changes need to be made to the technique, to survive in different conditions. No wonder he was able to make such a stupendous comeback into the Indian team in 2007.

I don't think he praises Indian players at the expense of other countries' players. What he is doing is that he is just not getting carried away and writing India off after every session of play like the others doing. If any commentator in both boxes knows something about the capabilities of the current Indian team then it is Dada simply because he was in the team not too long ago. Gavaskar enjoys his technicalities and praises good stuff from both sides. He does not know much about the specific teams' tactics and doesn't pretend to know them either. But his talk stays on generic cricket. Shastri doesn't talk cricket anymore Wasim talks more about the game and especially from his bowler's perspective Manjrekar assesses the capabilities of this team based on his playing days in the 90's and hence gets it wrong Dada comes closest to getting it right about individuals and the team Sky czuths just write India off and big up England which is fine with me. But they dont have a Dada equivalent in them. Nass retired before the current bunch came together and formed a bond. Maybe if Vaughan was in the box then he could've brought Dada's perspective about the English team. Warnie talks sense and talks from experience because he competed with some of the fellows on both sides and brings those insights into the game. Warnie also has some insight into the newer boyz coz of his IPL stint and so does Waz. Boycs is similar to Gavva Botham - the only equivalent I can think of on the Star-ESPN side is Alan Wilkins. Doesn't really talk about the game much Athers is similar to Manjrekar Bumble is like Shastri...dunn talk much about cricket anymore 'Olding was like Gavva and Boycs but of late seems to have become anti-India even during commentary but I still believe he is in the Gavva-Boycs mode.

Vaughan had on Saturday tweeted that Laxman might have used vaseline on the edge of his bat to avoid detection by the hot spot technology after a caught-behind appeal against the batsman was neither supported by the umpire nor by the Decision Review System. England's hat-trick hero Stuart Broad later said that he even had a feel of Laxman's bat to check if there was vaseline or any liquid in it but found nothing. Ganguly was scathing in his attack on Vaughan, saying that the former England skipper was trying to play a psychological game against the Indians which he said will no longer work on the world number one visiting side. "It's an important series and an attempt to go after the Indian batters. We know where it is coming from and why it is coming from. If you want to win the series, you got to be fair. This sort of press works in Australia and you are trying to do the same. I hope India has the last laugh," he said. "It's been there in the past. I had this issue while I was captain. I stood up. I still remember the Flintoff issue at the Wankhede Stadium. You go to Australia and there is this word in the press that Indians don't travel well and they are difficult to work with. I hope this wakes up India and they are competitive. India should use it as a push to compete even harder," said Ganguly who is here as commentator. Vaughan later tried to play down the controversy by suggesting that his tweets were written in jest but showed no signs of backing off, giving out sarcastic comments on the talk of taking him to court. Talking about Broad's reaction at the end of the second day's play, Ganguly advised the youngster to rather concentrate on his cricket. "Broad has just played two Tests. Before this, there was talk of him being dropped. He should not only try to earn world's respect but also the respect of fellow players," said Ganguly.
