India simply isn’t a good shopping destination pretty much for everything except maybe jewelry and silk sarees. :D The general quality of apparel in India is appalling and the options are as limited as a special edition Lamborghini. If you want good quality stuff, the price you have to pay is astronomical and you’re still not guaranteed value for money. You cant get a half decent shirt in India for a 1000 bucks, but you can find plenty of nice ones for $25 here (If you look hard enough). US offers the widest range and the best value for money Dunno whatchu on about. I get quality shirts for under 1000 - people keep asking me where I get my shirts. I say, I do my yearly shopping in India. For example, one of my fave shirts, the red one that I put up earlier when I was snacking in Latvia, is from namma namma bengaluru. I haven't found a comparable shirt here. Bangalore Showoff has rad collections. I don't shop in Factory Outlets or Brand Malls, so maybe that is the source of the discrepancy.

I pay for the goods and also advertise it? Kidding me? I am quite particular about what I wear. It is more about fitting and colour than style. Thanks for writing my post for me. The obsession with branded stuff in India (although it happens everywhere to some extent) is downright cringe-worthy. ps: I don't like to buy stuff from India if anything because of the size ranges that are available there. I'm about 190 cm with a decent/average-ish build and frame and I usually 'make it large' in UK/EU. In India, the XL stuff is simply too small. Of course there are some places which offer bigger stuff but they either have these horrible logos/designs that rip off the kool-doods or are made for the spherical man. Maybe I don't know enough about the clothing 'scene' in India but here its a lot less effort trying to get something that fits me. Jus sayin..

punjabiplaya Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 When i used to be a retail manager i only wore suits,even when going out,i still own about 40 suits,as im working in our family business in fish n chip shops black trousers n black shirt,from asdas does the trick lol,but if i buy clothes i prefer Armarni,have some hugo boss tops and couple of jeans,when went to punjab years ago most of my armani boxers were nicked by my cousins!! wasnt happy!!! I work hard so dont feel guilty buying armani...but wont tell my dad the cost,hes wears what we buy him,mostly marks n spencers,hes 60 looks 46 47 no one believes hes my dad,but left to his own devices would wear scruffy clothes all the time,lol!!!!

That is certainly not the case. But I think it is an extremely reasonable thing to say that, by and large, you get far higher quality of apparel in the US for far less, than what you do in India. The choices are undeniably higher here and when you pay premium price, you can assume that you will get your money’s worth. That isnt always the case in India.

I read that it's like 18% for items not made in US + local taxes?

This i bought for 18$ after discount. This goes very well with their Khaki shorts

They are my favorite. Otherwise I get a lot of formal clothes made to measure here in India. Raymond does a good job. My local tailor is also quite good, I tell him how loose or tight I want the sleeves, what kind of collar I want, etc and he does it well. For casual clothes, its US all the way. The cheap stuff in india is too thin/poor in quality. Sure, you do get all the same stuff as the US here in India, but they are never on sale. For example, a few months ago, I saw a pair of CK jeans here at Palladium. I was wearing the same pair of CK jeans at that moment, which I had purchased from the US for ~30$ on sale. What was the price here? Rs. 12,000. Most of my casual wardrobe consists of jeans, cargo shorts, polo neck shirts(big pony, small pony, double pony, all that jazz) and tees from woot.com, thinkgeek.com, etc. I'm known to have the best tee's. People keep asking me.. "Dude, where do you get these tshirts from?".. and I go.. "online.." For me, I am very fashion conscious but have hard time understanding what I want. For cloths I mostly try to follow the trend. Shirts from Express and pants from AE go really well with each other. As of brands like Armani, I can't afford them but have one jacket from Armani that I got on deal. I also like polos from Ralph Lauren and Lacoste but I rarely invest in them because of the high end prices. For office clothes I go for Chaps from Kohls. They have some sort of style and aren't all that expensive. Brands and stores Ralph Lauren/ Nautica/ Lacoste - Dillards (Everything is pretty much expensive) When I don't care about the brand but want good clothes on a tight budget - Macy's Swimming shorts - Walmart/ Target For College - AE/ Express/ Abercombie & Fitch (rarely)/ Holister etc., For work - Kohl's (Mostly chaps shirts and polos). They have good dress shoes as well. Shoes - Dick's Sporting goods
