Rahul Dravid Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Duh, before the players and umpires walked off the field, Dhoni was asked point blank, "will you withdraw the appeal ?" and Dhoni responded with a categorical "No". Only then Bell was given out. So if it was just his own decision, Bell would have been out of course. Dhoni is a product of modern India - mean mofo, competitive and one who does not give an inch. Dhoni must have consulted Tendu, Dravid & Laxman & must have decided that its not a good idea to enforce the "out". Anyways, focussing on this incident when the English team has just run over us, is missing the point. ur post is full of assumptions... LOL
Hell Raiser Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Totally agree with Dhoni on this one. If anyone wants to criticize him, it should not be about this decision rather than should be about his field settings. India leaked boundaries all day yesterday. More than 50 boundaries were scored yesterday. Poor stuff from Dhoni.
vaibhav_delhi Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 too much unwanted anger in that post :giggle: some guys should just chillax correct :giggle: though the recall decision by dhoni was a real c.hutiyappa....was disappointed to hear in post tea show that even ganguly was in favor of recall.
gaurav92 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Agree' date=' Bell was techinically out...but he claimed that 'over' was called...I think he was fooled by PK's casual attitude and thought that ball had touched boundary rope..[b']funny part is that even PK thought it was a 4 :cantstop: Yaa :giggle:
jonas10 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I just wish Dhoni would have not overturned the out. If Nasser or anyone said anything we all found like 200 Youtube clips in to shut up the South African mercenaries in a moment.
The Outsider Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 It was a great decision by Dhoni. Cricket was never meant to be played as a sport where a batsman casually sauntering without any intention of taking the run to be given out. It's true that the decision might have cost us the test match, but if the sport as a whole can benefit from this stance by Dhoni and the Indian team it's well worth it. Personally, I don't want cricket to go down the road of other global sports - it's one of the reasons I enjoy cricket more than any other sport. However, this should not detract from the fact that Dhoni's captaincy, batting, and keeping has been horrific throughout the series. In a way I am glad that Dhoni's true abilities are being shown in tough conditions in England and previously in West Indies. The hype associated with Dhoni is absolutely ridiculous as far as I am concerned because for me the true ability of a cricketer comes through only in test matches. As I said at the start of the series, Prior will show during the course of the series where Dhoni stands as a test cricketer. Parroting averages thanks to the strength of India's top order batting and in the subcontinent can only go so far. England was always going to be a litmus test because the new ball in England means that a few top order wickets are going to be lost early in the innings. What a woeful performer he has been!

Well you have been watching a different game for these years, cricket is not a gentlemans game anymore and there has been so many examples in recent years of that. Dhoni has done well in england previously ,Form comes and goes his keeping is better than it was in 2007 where he was horrible, his batting is unorthodox so he is bound to be inconsistant but you look at previous matches idnia has won abroad he has made some good contribution , Again in captaincy he has been handicapped by losing a bowler in each test ,but has managed i am a strong critic of dhoni capatincy specially his attitude towards opp but i feel for him this time.

And how can you say that Bell was not going for a 4th run? How did Bell decide that it was already a 4 before umpire sgnalled so? How did Bell decide that the over has ended before umpire called it? How did Bell decide that it was tea time before removed the bails? Are English players the be all and end all even in the field? I vehemently oppose Dhoni's decision. There was no furore when Laxman was given out stumped in WI while moving clumsily around his stumps before the ball was dead. This situation was worse where Bell was being stupid and after acting dramatically he gleefully accepted the recall. Sorry. Dhoni and Indian players been fooled big times here.
The Outsider Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 ^ Come on, Chandan just watching the clip can you honestly claim that Bell was running the fourth run? I don't subscribe to the notion that if other teams have done something against the spirit of the game, then Indian players should do the same.

Clearly he was backing up and asking batsman to return back. Bell knew that it was too late and he couldn't have reached the ground. When one batsman is denying the run how can it be against the spirit?
asehgal Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 wow. people like you deserve a captain like this. make sure you name your first born, 'mahendra'. Do you have a point or personal attacks is the best you can do?
pinkfreud Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Well, for all those who view the cricketing world through rose tinted glasses, Bell faked the whole 'protest' about that run out. He knew exactly what was happening, and he knew he was out. So says Michael Vaughan. And I'm not in the least bit surprised. FFS how far are you willing to go in the name of 'the spirit of cricket'? When you go far enough to become a total c**tiya and the laughing stock of, well, many people, to put it lightly, you're no hero. You're but a simpleton, and there's a difference between being ethical and being a simpleton. What Dhoni did was nothing but sheer buffoonery. This term 'spirit of the game' should be done away with; like 'spirit of Mumbai'. *shudder*

BELL DESERVES A OSCAR FOR HIS PERFORMANCE what a fool he made of MSD:hatsoff::hatsoff::hatsoff:

If you want to dominate and win then play like mean moffos and get the job done by hook or crook. MSD and India have been fooled yet again. I am afraid if our players are bullied like this then dark days of Indian cricket are just around the corner.
pinkfreud Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 If you want to dominate and win then play like mean moffos and get the job done by hook or crook. The thing is, it's not even about winning by hook or crook- it's merely about standing your ground, but apparently, even that is a huge mountain to climb for Dhoni and the 'seniors' who convinced him to change his mind. They are now the poster boys for the 'Aao bhaiya g**nd pe laat maar' and 'chalta hai' brigade. We complain of this very attitude that's so prevalent in our society but overlook it in the sports arena. If that's not hypocrisy I don't know what is.

But you shouldn't be naive enough to realize where actually spirit of the game is hurt.

Ok, then he has to answer even stiffer questions then, isn't it? What was he doing out of his crease towards his partner then, if he was not running for the 4th run? And can he please answer my other questions I asked my in ealier post? Why should hot spot only be examined when English players and media question it and HE/VE will not be examined despite Indian players and Indian media crying hoarse about it since ages? WHY IS ENGLAND SUPPOSED TO BE THE BE ALL AND END ALL EVEN IN THE FIELD?

WHY IS ENGLAND SUPPOSED TO BE THE BE ALL AND END ALL EVEN IN THE FIELD? Even if he was not running the 4th run, what makes us to believe each and every word said by England side. Just like it's obvious that Bell wasn't trying 4th run initially, it's also obvious that halfway down the pitch he realized it was too late when he saw Morgan asking him to go back. So he pretended to ignore everything.
