Jayaram_IND Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 well he can come at no.5 and lax at no.3 Dravid is a great batsman and a true gentleman and i think at 38 people must understand he cant keep for long periods.But knowing the nice guy and team man he is he will do it regardless of his wish but still dont put added pressure on him.

If at all, I'd do Mukund Gambhir Laxman Sehwag Dravid Tendulkar MSD I know this sounds weird, but have a logic for this. Opening: Should send somebody who can handle it for at least 7-8 overs. And their getting out is not a super-jolt. Mukund is going be to a limited player everywhere. So he might as well open. Gambhir should ideally bat down, but then there's nobody else to open. (If MSD was even remotely good against the new ball I'd send him instead of Gambhir). 1-down: People might argue why fix something that aint broke. I'd say if RD is ready to concentrate, and he doesnt have to negotiate the new ball, he can literally hang in for 100+ balls. So, he is a better bet at 2 or 3 down. Laxman looks vulnerable in England, but can still score an elegant 50. He might just provide the cushion that the stalwarts need. 2-3 down: RD and Sehwag would be perfect here. Both can play any of the 2 positions. Depends on the situation 4-down: SRT. He will get a chance to stamp his authority with the old ball, and then also help the team out in negotiating the 2nd new ball. He might also be able to accelerate if batting with the tail.

There's a reason why a batsmen feel comfortable in a certain position. They are not like chess pieces in a battle.
