umm... what would you qualify as a great catch... skill presence of mind reaction time significance of the catch to the context of the game i assume that all of them weigh together... Kapil's catch was sheer skill and athleticism. running behind to take a skier that changed the course of the final. I can think of many players who might have dropped or not even tried the catch. Just because he did not put in a dive, doesnt make the catch any less special.

unfair to call it being biased. Just cause i chose an indian running behind and diving,i am biased ? i believe that the monumental nature of the moment comes into play as well when we judge catches. (aka..WC 1996 final - i think gurusinha was given 3 lifes....,1999 gibbs dropped a sitter) no stage is bigger than the WC final. Hence , best catch

There was no dive IIRC . Kapil dev's catch will be a special catch if you are an Indian fan ,But sorry I have seen many better catches in international matches . About the monumental nature ,so does it mean even a sitter in a WC final is better than a very athletic one in a normal game .There is no yard stick to measure the monumental nature of a match so we shouldn't go there . I am a Sri Lankan fan still I don't rate Mahela-Mathews as the best catch in the history . I have seen running behind and diving catches from Aussies , Great catches from Mahanama (Because I watches lot of Sri Lankan matches) .Still I don't think we can rate one catch as 'The Best' because each and every good catch has their own characteristics.

I'm not surprised ,this is why Kapil dev makes the Cricinfo world 11 instead of Sobers because of zillions of Indian fans vote on their biased views . You may not feel you are being biased but as an outsider to indian cricket I can say that Kapil's catch was a good catch but not a great catch . Emotional aspect of that catch does not mean anything to non-indian fan .
