Today Kejriwal said that actually the Lokpal in their Janalokpal bill has less powers than a Grade B Incometax officer. A grade B Incometax officer has powers to initiate investigations against Chief Justice of India and even Prime Minister, make a case and give a penalty judgement too. A Lokpal can merely investigate whatever cases is put in his/her office and then recommend the case to the Judiciary. It doesn't has any powers to start investigations and give a penalty judgement. It can only refer the case to the judiciary.. So we have to first educate ourselves about these bills, before passing comments like it's "draconian" etc. Fecking even if it's "draconian", so be it. For too long the corrupt have eaten away the country. Everybody looted India..Even it's own people and stashed al the money abroad..Even it's draconian, so be it. PS: nothing will happen.. you think the political class is stupid to sign on it's own death wish? They'll not even pass this bill. Fecking 42 years has passed by since the first Lokpal bill was proposed.. Cool down :icflove: I said ,what I felt after reading it, and it was my opinion . I can be wrong too :).It won't easy,but we will fight .Secondly , lokpal isn't a wholesome solution to uproot corruption ,but a start :)

I think it should above 90%, after all, we can vote for the same government after 26/11(in mumbai, congress still stayed) so I do not think any of this fight will even matter as they will continue to have power....

veer Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 i read the above lokpal bill guidelines and suggestions and all... anna hazare's bill looks like a massive undertaking.. we are talking about setting up one powerful identity on top of govt officials..... also, staffing will be done by PM and other memebers of lok sabha.. then whose to say they won't elect their 'own' ppl who will save their behind..

Anna stand is not that the bill should be introduced in the parliament, its that it should be 'passed' by the parliament and that too unconditionally. He doesnt have any elected position yet he wants to draft and pass a bill only because he says so. That sounds like pure blackmail to me

Except when you say people, the one million odd protestors do not represent the entire 1billion population of India. Secondly, this bill, if passed will represent a whole change in India's constitution for all times so its a big, big decision. A non-elected body, comprimising of people who are selected on such subjective qualities like honesty, upstanding, having sway over the country's prime-minister and supreme court judges? and you dont see anything wrong with this?

Govt can always force feed me if they want. Reason Civil society is asking for the bill to be passed is there is a dishonesty among the govt to pass this bill. TIme and again they have failed to pass a strong anti-corruption. Now that Anna has started a fast , they want to make sure that this law should be passed. ultimately it is the parliament which passes the bill. Its not like they are not ready to talk, but knowing govt they have to ask for moon to get an aeroplane.

Or at least this eunuch PM can step down and maybe someone with balls can be installed by the ruling party who has the courage to assert the supremacy of the Parliament. I cant imagine 3 more years of this lameduck govt functioning like this.

Why doesnt the govt take him to a hospital and feed him forcibly. The answer is clear - this govt has no conviction about anything, it has no reputation or credibility to speak of. If this govt cannot handle these protesters it should resign.
