J P K Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Former ICC umpire Darrell Hair has revealed in his new book that Harbhajan Singh will always have a suspect action. Until now, Darrell Hair - the former ICC umpire - was known to be solely critical of Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling action but now, in his 360-page book (The Best Interest of the Game), the Australian has made sensational revelations about suspect bowling actions of other Asian bowlers too. "Bowlers like Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar will always have suspect actions," Hair told MiD DAY from Sydney on Tuesday morning. "Harbhajan, when attempting to bowl the doosra or impart over spin, starts with a bent arm before straightening his arm considerably while releasing the ball. Similarly, Shoaib's yorker ball changes his action to well past a 'front on' delivery stride. Therefore, it's almost impossible for him to keep his arm straight. "I reported Harbajhan and Shoaib while umpiring; ICC must have lost record," he said. The other bowlers (with suspect actions) he has named in his book are Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez, Bangladesh's Abdur Razzaq and South Africa's Johan Botha. Interestingly, all these bowlers had been reported for their action at some stage. Harbhajan was sent to Fred Titmus' school in England to seek advice several years ago. "I wrote the book because I believe there is poor governance of international cricket," he added. The cover of the book contains Hair's altercation with Inzamam-ul-Haq during the 2006 Oval Test.

How can he make it large in the IPL if he's banned with a suspect action.
ganeshran Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 The doosra can never be bowled completely legally, the only ones who bowled it legitimately (to a certain extent) were Saqlain who put serious effort and Murali whose wrists were extremely supple. Atleast Bhajji doesnt bowl the doosra much nowadays, Ajmal is the most blatant chucker currently...

This "chucker" in question is maybe one of the best spinner in world cricket at the moment, having the highest wickets for any current international cricketer. Did the Aussies ever pan Warnie or "drop him for not making it large" in India? Jesus Christ. Grow up folks.

We just expect "one of the best spinners in the world" to do more than just bowl a defending line and actually attack batsmen and put pressure on them by being consistent and beating them with skills like flight/loop and length variation, inviting them forward to drive at times and at others getting the ball to spit out of the rough. You know, the basic skills that EVERY spin bowler aspires to. He hasn't done that for months so all I'm saying is that he needs to improve and that shouldn't be done at the test level, but back in domestic cricket.

But every champion goes through a tough phase. Lets help him come out of it and openly mocking him, the way MidDay has opportunistically is not the right way to treat anyone. Shane Warne never mastered the Indian conditions. Did his country castigate him? No. They infact increased the support and trust they showed in him.

Yoda-esque Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Its impossible to bowl the doosra without bending your arm.Even Saqlain used to bend his arm. The carrom ball though can be bowled with a more credible action .
f.b.m Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I'll stick my neck out and say that the reason why he was effective earlier on in his career was coz he bent his arm more for the off-break. After more scrutiny he can only chuck his 100 kmph toe-crusher in ODIs..
