Gautam Gambhir, whose fitness was under the cloud after a head injury while attempting a catch during the Oval Test, has cleared the MRI scan and will be fit for the five-match ODI series against England. "There is nothing in his MRI scan and he is fit to play the ODI series. However, he has been asked to take some rest and that will take care of everything," team manager Shivlal Yadav told TOI from Hove on Wednesday. But Gambhir may miss the practice match against Sussex. Meanwhile, the Indian cricketers went through some intense fielding drills on Wednesday. "We will be back with the same intensity which was the character of the team during the World Cup. You can't write off the world champions," Yadav added. India coach Duncan Fletcher witnessed the proceedings from behind the nets with bowling coach Eric Simmons in tow. Among batsmen, Rohit was the most impressive while Raina was the most brittle, which is hardly surprising since he scored only 105 runs from the four-Test series at an average of 13.12. Sharma hit massive sixes with utmost ease and one such hit drew a handsome clap from Fletcher in appreciation. Young Ajinkya Rahane and Varun Aaron, who were chosen as replacements for injured Virender Sehwag and Ishant Sharma, were yet to arrive in England. The ground offers sufficient inspiration for the visitors. Parthiv played well today, i'd open with him.

He should be rested totally even if he is fit before 1st ODI as he wont have much practice anyway. Gambhir reportedly still is suffering from blurred vision and is almost certain to miss out the day-night fixture against Kent on Friday. If things improve dramatically over the next couple of days, Gambhir ought to be targetting the one-day game against Leicestershire on August 29 after which the Twenty20 and five one-day internationals against England would be played. However, things are looking far from rosy as the Delhi opener is having trouble on fixing his sight on anything - be it looking at the mobile or watching the television. Gambhir took to indoor nets at Hove county cricket ground for 45 minutes on Thursday. Bowling coach Eric Simmons was at hand to look at his progress. To onlookers though it was apparent he had trouble in picking up the line and length of throwdowns which Simmons hurled at him. During the innings break in the match between Sussex and the Indians on Thursday, Gambhir came out and tested himself out with a run in the ground with a support staff of the Indian team trying to assess his state of fitness. Apparently Gambhir suffers from a nausea whenever he tries expert himself either physically or when he fixes his eye on anything. The left-hander is suffering from blurred vision after the concussion he suffered while fielding in the final Test at Oval last week.
