F*** speeds of bowlers. THey bloody get the job done clinically. Three innings defeats to Australia in their own backyard. Whitewash to no.1 Indian side. Pakistan got bowled out for totals like 80,70 there times. Mitch Johnson is as fast as anyone comes. Look how he struggles in SL. You need skills as well.

Depth-wise I don't think they can be matched. Quality wise I would say South-African attack is quite close.

Problem with SA attack is without Steyn they are reduced to half the strength. Atleast there is a hope that one you see off Morkel and Steyn you can have a breather. Not against this pommie attack.

Well It was because of Broad who surprisingly came very good against us. Otherwise the way Mukund and Gambhir handled Anderson and Tremlett in the first test in first inning , it would've been a problem for Poms to get those 20 wickets. If broad or any third seamer for them continues to be half of that good in a season or 2 , I'll say no attack can match quality of England's attack. I agree SA can't replace Steyn or Morkel. England on the other hand can replace almost anyone without much fall in quality. That's why England has better depth.

England definitely have one helluva attack over-all. SA attack comes close but they don't have a good spinner, Tahir needs to play more before we judge him actually. SA and Eng - 2 attacks , Day light and then the rest.

England have a killer Test bowling side, but their bowlers are not much worth raving about in the shorter formats of the game. Perhaps that will change in the months/years to come though. At present, SA by far has the best bowling attack in all forms of the game.

If you compare the first choice attack I think SA have a better attack, Steyn is miles ahead of any fast bowler atm. But England definitely have better bench strength for sure. I am still not fully convinced about how English bowlers would do outside of that wet and gloomy island. Yes they did alright in Aus but let's be honest Aussies were not in right shape and that's just one series, need to see more. Steyn and Morkel can be lethal everywhere.

I wonder what made the batting so fragile .I simply havent been able to work it out .I remember the Aus fans were at a loss over the winter and so were the Pak fans last year etc etc etc .I just cant fathom the common denominator between fragile batting line ups and the England bowling .

Yeah, I would assume so you would have difficulty figuring that out. I for some reason cant fathom a team dominating an already depleted team ( Aus, would u call them the Aus of yday ? Pak, well the less said the better. India in England- anyone to figure that out if it was the full strength team or not ) and declaring them the worlds best. You become the best by dominating full strength strong teams ...in their own backyard would be the icing on the cake.

I consider South African attack of Steyn and Morkel better than England's. Steyn is the difference maker here. He is a one man army. This guy can wreck the opposition in no time. A Bloody wicket taking machine. But England has better bench strength. Even their second choice bowlers like Finn, Tremlett/ Bresnan, Onions is a good attack.

I feel we are still underestimating the English Bowlers. Whatever has been said about the SA bowlers in the posts here, is alright, but seriously steyn/morkel also need slightly favourable conditions to be able to devastate teams, i remember a match india drew with SA in the latest series, Smith and co. complained that SA bowlers could not do much because the pitch had gotten flat, steyn/morkel etc. nobody was effective. On the same note, i have seen many a times, in the recent England test series, the pitch was flat when indians were batting, but still could not cross 300 a single time. It has to be said, they are a powerful force in bowling. To me, they have all the aspects of bowling in their setup, which no team has. Very fast bowlers, Huge Swingers, Big Revers Swingers, Spinners, Wonderful Seam Bowlers & Mastery in Fast Bouncers, what else does a team needs. Their record says it all. They have beaten most teams in their backyard, in sub continent yes they do not have a good record, but they do not play that often here in the sub continent.
