I'd bet he'd be down to 130-135kph if he played in a 50 over match.
But he certainly can crank it up. He is in my RADAR at least for some time now. Always had the potential to bowl at 90mph. He lacked control and variations. In this tournament, he has been given a go for the full tournament, and hence he is relaxed and showing his full talent. That's exactly what confidence can do for a player. He was only playing a match here and there in the IPL. IN this tournament, he has been a really nice foil for malinga, and looks potent. I think if the Management sticks with him, he has it in him to deliver the goods.

better than those who start at 125kmph and bowl 95kmph in the last overs.

Dude he is still better than VK's of the Indian Team. 135+ in ODI's is better than VK's & Munaf's
Rubbish. He has not shown himself better than Munaf, who by all reports was integral to us winning the World Cup.

It is not like that. WE picked Vinay and Aravind who bowls 125k. He is still better. and I tell you one thing which I have experienced whnever these guys have been shown confidence and asked to bowl quick the likes of Yadav, Aaron, and Nechim, they have bowled quick. I saw this in IPL when Daredevils had told Yadav to bowl as fast as he can and he really bowled fast. I feel in India fast bowlers does not get confidence of captain and team management to bowl fast and then try to control their pace rather than going for bowling quick. I should say Indian captains and team management do not know how to handle genuine pacers and let them express themselves. Instead they bind these guys into the boundaries of line and length. Like I heard from Dhoni in press conference when correspondents asked him about Aaron why he is not played as he has some pace. Dhoni said he has pace but line and length is also important. Bhai try him, how do you know he is wayward without playing him, when even your trundlers who are supposed to bowl accurately as they don't have pace are not bowling good line and length then what's benefit in playing them ahead of genuine pacers. We could see the effect of Dhoni not playing Aaron for the so called waywardness, Aaron did not try to bowl too quick today and tried to maintain line and length and still bowled faster and better than Vinay Kumar and still troubled the batsmen.

Agree. Seems we are getting deluded in the hope of finding an express bowler. Only Varun and Aaron are right arm fast. It remains to be seen if they what it takes to get wickets at international level. Abu Nechim is ordinary in pace and talent IMO. His record in domestic is modest.

The fact is, if he can bowl 140kph+ with variations, then he should absolutely tear up in domestic OD cricket. He has not done this yet. A quick bowler should have an easy time against Indian domestic batsmen and so should be able to mark themselves out easily with good performances. He currently has just 10 List A wickets in 11 matches.

I would give nechim a go and see what he can bring to the plate, munaf was persisted and given the confidence hence performed for little what he did !!!! :finger:

Line and length, as used by Dhoni, is just another way of saying quality. If he is getting the Indians out in the nets, he will be adjudged accurate enough. If he is getting smacked in the nets, then his line and length is not good enough. Nothing is said about slowing down or speeding up. You have a very patronizing view of Indian pace bowlers, that they cannot decide to bowl quickly on their own and that they need explicit written permission to go full tilt in a spell. They are not children, if they can bowl quick, then they will at times. Perhaps Aaron does not have the stamina to bowl quick in 4 day cricket, or perhaps he realized that trying to bowl quick has got him the poor FC record that he has and he has sought to improve.

He did poorly against England, as did all our pacers. You are too fickle. He did well in the World Cup and before the World Cup, he can be allowed one poor series.

Is that enough to prove his quality and consistency in the format. I do not think that it is!

You did not t understand it. These guys are not veterans. They 21-22 year old kids only and until they are given confidence of their place in the squad they will do it. Same thing was happened with Munaf. Aakash Chopra wrote an article about this issue in India regarding fast bowlers which I am talking about. If a bowler does not have confidence of his captain, how will he feel, he will not get flat out and will try to bowl within himself and economical.

Munaf was different. He clearly does not have the body to bowl at 140kph for a career. He is very injury prone and did the right thing in slowing down. Perhaps selfish fans want him to bowl 140kph and then break down but that isn't something that he or management would want him to do. Are you honestly telling me that the likes of Aaron are picked purely for speed and then told to slow down? That is illogical!

Nobody ever considers that perhaps the Indians are not physically trained enough to sustain high speeds. They always want to have this romantic view that management is holding these speedsters down.

He did well in the World Cup and before the World Cup' date=' he can be allowed one poor series. [/quote'] You seem to have forgotten all the series where he has failed after giving opportunities. England should be a bowlers paradise, he failed there !!! Ishant / Zaheer bowled well in England, for that matter even PK bowled well in patches. But VK & Munaf were utterly rubbish. Have you personally watched the matches you are talking about, do you know the conditions , the pitches he was bowling on???? Answer is NO. My Point is when a guy is doing well here , who has bit of pace in him, it;'s people like you who come and warrant the selection of VK's PK's & Munaf and that makes my blood BOIL. So keep this thought to yourself, if Nechim has done well he should be given a chance, it's that simple . FYI he is the top wicket taker in the tournament till now.

Munaf Patel has outstanding records domestically in both formats of the game... http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/60/60943/f_Bowling_by_Team.html http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/60/60943/a_Bowling_by_Team.html

And the precise reason for that is , he was picked up for his pace, until some stupid idiot advised him to slow down + he keeps getting injured. Nechim looks an athlete for that matter.
