If he gets his swing back and even if he gets it upto 130-132 kmph, he will be indispensable for the ODI side and could be a good addition in tests as well if we want to play 5 bowlers. The key to his return to the national side is obviously him getting the swing and the pace back. And during the last stages of IPL 4, we did see the swing gradually coming back. Remains to be seen if he has the pace as well.

Remains to be seen if he has the pace as well. He needs to correct his technique which he was still persisting with even in IPL which leads him to be wayward quite often even at 130K pace. I dont think he had lost his swing ever, the thing he had lost was accuracy because the changes he had made in his technique. Remember, Karachi 2006, Irfan was on decline at that time, but he still had swing but had lost accuracy because of that crooked thump seam position as he lost accuracy he reduced to his pace to get accuracy after that but that pace was too so reduced that it was tough for him to trouble the batsman and became ineffective. He had reduced to even 115-120K in that process. Remember T20 WC 2007, he was still swinging the ball then. According to me, there was no problem in swing whenever there was help, but whenever, conditions did not suit, he looked ordinary but he could have swung the ball even then but the accuracy problem haunted him. I still saw in IPL how he was struggling with accuracy even at 125K of pace. He will have to have proper seam position which enable him to bowl at better pace and accuracy and he can still get the swing.

MCcricket Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 OK there are a few people who seriously think he is mediocre, a left hander bowling between 130 to 140 k , swings the ball prodigiously, great tryer, aggressive, young, good bat , technique, plays spin and pace.Yes he had his ups and downs because of injuries and loss of form but we all know when he bowled and batted well against good teams.Class is permanent form is not, with a good captain , field settings , new ball , fitness and support he can be our teams greatest asset.Even at his lowest he is better then PK , VK, RP at present.

"Everybody would love to be a 150kph swing bowler. But you don't really get that. Glenn McGrath and Shaun Pollock were among the best bowlers in Test cricket and they didn't bowl too fast; they bowled around 130kpm more often. They took what they had and were very successful in using that," he pointed out. "That's what Irfan has done successfully in the past and will do again in the future. He's an incredibly talented cricketer. He's got great skills; he's thorough in his batting, his fielding and in many ways he's a true allrounder."
