Low and Slow and allows good turn so spinners can pick up wickets. Also it holds up well for 5 days of cricket.

Also it holds up well for 5 days of cricket. During that particular match, pitch assisted spinners on day 1. Look at the scorecard. Australia lost 7 wickets 45-50 runs on day 1. But it wasn't exactly a turner like Galle or Mumbai where ball was turning from day 1. In fact it was good for batting on 1st and 2nd day. On first day, it offered good bounce and that's why batting was not as bad as rank turners. Kumble used that bounce very well. Pitch helped spinners throughout the match. Usually in India pitches crumble at the end of day 4 and on day 5 and chasing 200 seems to be difficult. But this pitch didn't crumble and it was still good track on day 4. India was expected to chase the target here. I'm not sure why such tracks are not given more often in India. This was a good test match pitch.

India was expected to chase the target here. I'm not sure why such tracks are not given more often in India. I dont think pitch preparation is an automatic art. A curator just cannot order any sort of pitch as he pleases. It depends on the soil the place has, and also the weather. If you want a seamer friendly pitch, its important to have grass on the pitch so the ball retains its sheen more longer and affords better movement, but in Indian weather the heat often makes it difficult to have grass on the pitch and makes it crack affording more turn and hint of reverse. For curators, its often a battle with nature to bring out a sporting wicket, making a flat pitch the safest bet. The Chennai curator is an intelligent guy who does lot of jugaad to maintain the pitch. I remember during the WC, he had put a tent over the pitch for it to have some air circulation and retain some amount of moisture. If it was just covered normally, the heat might have caused big cracks

None of those Ahmedabad roads or Mohali tracks. Or our worst ground: Bangalore India MUST play at a choice of the following: Mumbai, EG, Kanpur, Chennai, FSK. If there was ever a time for politics not to play a part in selection of grounds for BCCI, it has to be this series. England lost one dayers on pitches which didn't even turn that much, wait till we get them on a real turner at the Kotla!

BUT wil the ICC allow india to prepare pitches that turn? we all saw what happened when sri lanka prepared a turner at galle. openly admonished by the ICC. gotta love the double standards, but this is what we are dealing with. the ECB and ICC want to protect their prized asset and we could mostly likely have 3 tests played on cement wickets that allow these gutless ingerlanders to avoid the whitewash they would receive. what should india do??The bigger and more relevant question is, will the BCCI allow it's team to take home advantage? ICC can crib and cry all they like but if BCCI wants nothing can stop them from making turners. The issue is will BCCI bend backwards to the advertisers and make 5-day pitches to fill their coffers. This is the time every BCCI official needs to have some little honor and sense of shame to give it's own team a chance at doing a 4-0. The thing is that a money-minded politician turned administrator's memory is too short. One year is too long to hope for them to remember the humiliation. Of all you know they are already satiated after this 5-zip result Edit - But the players can still remember the hurt and play for it. Realistically, we don't need a rank turner...all we need are result pitches and by result pitches I mean pitches that are made to last for 4 days of decently balanced Test cricket. I remember Dhoni gave some 10k to the Kanpur groundsman after defeating SA in 2008. If the team can give the groundsmen of these 4 games 25k...hell no need to even give any money...just like the old fashioned way, talk to the groundsmen and tell them how important it is for the team to salvage their pride back it will do the trick. Make a pitch that lasts for 4 days and you will see a 5 day game with a result

MCcricket Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 It is surprising the bickering and barbs that are being thrown within the England team, Swann is setting a bad example,Englands best bat is KP , Bell, they are the one who might be more successfull in India, if they cannot play spinners in ODI on a turning track, how will they play on the 4 th and 5 th day , under presssure, with their arch Nemesis Zaheer, Ishant and one of Umesh , Varun bowling the bowling line up looks formidable.Tendlya, Sehwag and Yuvraj back , these guys will be not wanting to come back , lol I hope they bring the Sandwich Patel back lol for some pasting and PR.

Pitch should be sportive and assist spinners, no dustbowls it can work against us as well, just like SL embarrassed themselves by preparing a dustbowl and collpasing to a rookie spinner.

When India lost, all swords were drawn and they were calling for heads but when England lost, its just one of those things that happens all the time.
