saneindian Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Slightly offtopic question regarding this.Does the selection of Aaron and Yadav ahead of Vinay Kumar who has superior 1st class record' date='closes the door for Vinay Kumar in future ODI selections as well.As he was getting selected in our ODI team just because of his good 1st class record.[/quote'] Don't think so. Most of the first choice players would most likely not play the WI ODIs making VK a senior bowler and a certainty for that series.
Sooda Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 ^ Well yeah, its the selectors getting their formats all mixed up. Hence Rahul being here on basically his IPL form. Im sure Vinays list A record is decent though and doubt it does 'close the door' seeing that all three were in the last ODI squad. There is an element of insticnt as WestMidz pts out and hopefully Varun will rpove a great punt

Trichromatic Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 ^ I don't mind if he plays some ODIs and restrict better bowlers to tests. :cantstop:
BeautifulGame Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I would rather have Nehra as our senior bowler mentoring younsters in WI ODI than Vinay. Atleast he has international experience and could guide young bowlers in the absence of PK and zaheer.VK is just useless

saneindian Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Jimmy Paaji as a selector has definitely helped Rahul's case. Used to speak highly of him in his interviews.

jonas10 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 He was picked for one reason and one reason alone for TEST matches....his play in IPL! Disgusting!
Yoda-esque Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 He was picked for one reason and one reason alone for TEST matches....his play in IPL! Disgusting! Lolz,Its True:giggle:
Tiger80 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 The selection Rahul Sharma will send very bad message to young players. They will now concentrate more on IPL rathen ranji Matches..It looks to me IPL is now becoming ticket to Indian cricket team
MCcricket Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Rahul Sharma suffered from partial face paralysis, whatever games he played he looked good, he is picked based on potential.I think it is a brave choice, better then going back to proven failures, Mishra, Chawla. he is very tall , accurate, gets bounce, W I a good team to see what he can do.I believe Ashwin, Jadeja, R Sharma, Iqbal Abdullah ,Ojha , are the best spinners currently.
ganeshran Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Its clearly a gamble. Some people will find anything to whine about. Ok, lets put it this way- if not Rahul Sharma, then who is the third leggie selectors should have picked after Ojha and Ashwin?

I agree, a gamble , but a smart one, he has the attributes to be successful
Trundler27 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 mr mishra has not grabbed his opportunities and mr chawla is a rubbish leggie who lacks confidence. Both those fellas are better batters than leggies tbh. So this is a good opportunity to get a look at someone else. Ppl need to stop whining and should praise the selectors for taking some bold steps which we felt were absolutely necessary after the drubbing we received in england. This selection should put all the lethargic seniors on notice for future performances and attitudes.
BERGKAMP Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 potential that has been spotted. lots of players come into international cricket after having played not much in domestic and tear it up. fletcher is famous for this with guys like trescothick, harmison, jones etc.
NareshK Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 On what basis ? IPL of course. :two_thumbs_up:
BERGKAMP Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 On what basis ? IPL of course. :two_thumbs_up: ipl and also he has been with fletcher for the last month nearly so he must have spotted something.
MCcricket Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Guys firstly players r picked up for their potential , specially in IPL, AMONG LOCAL PLAYERS,these teams will not waste their money on nothing. You have to follow dOMESTIC CRICKET , ipl is a part of it , look at a players potential to understand, this is not an absurd selection like Umadkat
