1983-2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 He won't get a game but still how did he make in to the Test squad. his FC records are rubbish. 10 matches, 18 wickets, 44.66 average, 87.7 strike rate:facepalm:
Laaloo Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Don't think he's gonna get a game to be honest. Anyways, I hope it riles up Harbhajan even more. I mean Rahul Sharma picked over him. That should get his blood going :potstir:
Number Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 That surprised me. but may be they want a leg spinner in the squad and don't think Mishra and Chawala are good enough.
saneindian Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 The only bad selection. The only logic I can think of is they want to try out a leggie before the Aus tour where leggies have traditionally done well. If that is the reason, then they better pick him in the 11 in one of the tests vs WI. The little I watched him bowl in the Irani Trophy was impressive but looked a bit raw for the longer format.
urbestfriend Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Frankly never mind , he is only promising leggy in the domestic circuit apart from Mishy who has wasted his chances , so nothing wrong in selecting Sharma.
Blue Panther Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow: Leg spinner.
cowboysfan Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 a leg spinner who doesnt turn the ball, maybe they are hoping he will turn out like Kumble(one can only hope).
ganeshran Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Yup Rahul just jumped the line there. Nothing wrong with giving a prospect a chance especially when its a bowler. If it doesnt work out, selectors can always tell him to go back to domestic cricket for a couple of years and grind it out
Laaloo Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 ^^Especially when he's not going to even get a game unless someone gets injured. Just have him in the dressing room, let him practice, and just give him more exposure.
Trichromatic Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Why everyone thinks that he will not get a game? Will we play at home with only 1 spinner? :dontknow: I hope spinners get chance to play matches. Spinners especially leggies are very rare in world cricket and batsman really don't know how to play leggies. Any team with a good leg-spinner would have an extra advantage even in away matches.

It will most likely be 2+2 and Sharma should get a game.

We'll go with two spinners but Ashwin and Ojha will get to play as they have prior international exposure.
Trichromatic Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 In that case he would be better off playing more first class matches. Yeah, he should play more FC matches. But I still hope he gets chance in at least 1 test.
Sooda Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 God knows. Varun too does not deserve a spot here.
BeautifulGame Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Bit surprising tbh.Spinners unlike fast bowlers are often selected aften gaining experience in domestic cricket. So that they learn how to work out batsmen. Hopefully yhis gamble doesnt back fire.Btw does he have a good googly?
ganeshran Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Everyone who was complaining that we dont give phaast bowlers a chance has no more reason to complain...
VRV Singh Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 How come he debuted in 2006 but has only played 9 FC since then? :dontknow:
WeStMiDz Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 God knows. Varun too does not deserve a spot here. You cannot always go by first class records. Sometimes gut instinct must play a part and I applaud the selectors for finally taking a gamble with pace.
Sid Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 God knows. Varun too does not deserve a spot here. Slightly offtopic question regarding this.Does the selection of Aaron and Yadav ahead of Vinay Kumar who has superior 1st class record, closes the door for Vinay Kumar in future ODI selections as well.As he was getting selected in our ODI team just because of his good 1st class record.
