I agree with you on this. And I say this in spite of being a big MSD fan. Conferring the title of Lt. Col on MSD or debating whether to give SRT the Bharat Ratna or not actually devalues these titles. A Lt. Col is a high rank in the army. Bharat Ratna is primarily for public service. We have awards for sports people- Arjuna award. Lets stick with those.

We have given Bharat Ratna to filmstars and politicians before. If MGR and Rajiv Gandhi can get the award, I dont see how giving it to sportspersons will devalue it.
