Irfan pathan is very good bowler. in international cricket his performance is very nice. he play cricket and perform very well with both bat and ball. you have see many matches in which pathan do very nice bowling and batting. his out swing ball are so horrible for batsman. and we see it when he takes hat-trick against pakistan in test match.

why are we even thinking about that good for nothing guy... both he and his brother promised a lot and then failed to deliver upto their potential
I guess the main reason is that the next world cup is in Aus and over there we will need a fast/medium paced all-rounder as the likes of Yuvraj, Jadeja etc. will not be effective on those pitches. Plus, Irfan had lot more potential than his brother. If Irfan regains his old form India would be one of the favorites for the next WC else we wouldn't progress deep into the tourney.

We're in trouble if our entire WC hopes rest on Pathan.
Not all but you have to admit it's gonna be extremely difficult to win the tourney in Aus if we don't have a pace all-rounder. In fact we did well in T20 Cup in 2007 coz Irfan filled in the 3rd pacer role perfectly and in the finals was the best bowler for us. Spinners won't win us the cup like they did this time round and we need couple of pacers, especially an all-rounder, to step up ASAP.

If you have 3 good seamers and a spinner, the other 10 overs can come from UV, Viru e.t.c We would still be favourites. 03 WC was in South Africa and we did well. Dinesh Mongia was at 7 so that says it all.

In Aus there are more chances of a top order collapse and Pathan at 8 can score a few.

Pathan has found his swing, he is an accomplished bat, only problem being his pace, he has to bowl around 132 k's not 125 k's to be successfull in international cricket, also his action still looks mechanical and can make some changes, once he starts believing in himself , he is not ready yet.

I happened to watch TEN cricket's program yesterday on Irfan Pathan (I guess program must be 4-5 yrs old) and was amazed at the swing (bringing ball in) this guy got bowling leftarm over to both LH and RH batsman. His pace as usual was in early 120s or even below but his deliveries were quite unplayable (of course they showed wicket taking /good balls in the program but still). Even in 2006 tour to pakistan he had Salman Butt totally out of sort with his slow but deadly outswingers outside off. To me Irfan will always remain the biggest enigma in Indian cricket.
Exactly! The hat-trick against Pak in the first over was a result of 3 unplayable balls. The ball to Gilchrist had swing and pace. Somewhere, something went wrong. I would question the team management at the time. He seems to be destined to be remembered by the potential he had and not by performances.

I remember we used to use him as a floater, he came in at number 3 a few times and did well. Once maybe against SL. Good plan, but he needs to bowl well, not sure if he is as I haven't been following him much.
