Oh really? Have you even checked how Bhajji had fared in Ranji that year? He had taken 28 wickets at 13.16 runs in just 5 matches, which is not bad from any angle. Only Nehra had done better than in as many matches. Wonder where you guys get your informations from!
Many fans have misconception about his record at that time :cantstop: and some fans like these also believed he wasnt playing at that time but instead driving truck in US ,when Gangu the great talent spotter called him from there :haha:

Perhaps from Harbajan himself? Harbajan in an interview to Indian express :
Shekhar Gupta: So you were planning to go to Canada or America. Harbhajan Singh: At that time, my family was my top priority because I am the eldest. But suddenly I saw some hope when Sourav (Ganguly) spoke to me, called me to Delhi and John Wright, who was the coach then, saw me bowl. There was this camp of players and my name was in it. It was then that I realised that this could be my comeback. So, I went to the camp, performed well. And then they let me into the Board XI team that was touring Australia. They were short of a spinner because Anil bhai (Anil Kumble) was injured. I took three and two wickets in each of the innings. I bowled well, so my name came up for the first Test match.
Its not because he had stats its because Ganguly saw potential in him. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/ch...etire/681255/0

^So? :hmmmm2:
SO Ganguly did not find him but he was picked even before Ganguly was captainm but then dropped and then he was again recalled after he took wickets in domestic cricket and when Kumble got injured, he was called again.

Was on the 99-00 tour of Australia as well. For some strange reason, was purged from the team for the SA series that followed. And then for a good 12 months wasn't picked even though we had the Joshis, Sarandeeps, Chopras and a young Kartik as well alongside Kumble. Only after they failed was Bhajji recalled, that too after he had bowled well in the India A match vs the Aussies.

Are you telling me that Ganguly didn't pick Sehwag and Dhoni from the street and teach them how to bat? :omg:

Bhajji was picked by dada to play against australia in the famous 2000 india vs aus test matches. Bhajji's recored was so very poor in domestic tourneys at that time. But dada picked him because he could actually bowl the off spin and turn the ball square. Over the years bhajji has lost that skill of turning the ball' date=' and his doosra. I think if he works on his basics and if he can turn the ball then i am sure he can get claim his place in indian team.[/quote'] Bhajji in his life was never big spinner, he is classic tosser who gets bounce due to over spin where as guy like Swann is classic drifter who get lots of side spin. When pitch doesn't have any bounce Bhajji loses his potency even if pitch is spinning wicket ,more so lately because he has lost his doosra almost completely. He is not getting that over spin he used to get earlier as a result he has become a darter who is straying on pads. On Indian pitches tossers who rely more on pitches whose bounce generally are up and down are successful. Kumble Bhajji excellent home records and not so good away records attest to that fact. All side spinners including Murali and Warne have poor records in India. He was mediocre to begin with in overseas matches and now unless he rediscovers his doosra and that over spin he will be useless at home too.

I agree with all the possible interpretations of each sentence of this post..

Every spinner worth his salt was called for that camp including a certain WD Balaji Rao. There were some 9-10 spinners for the preparatory camp at Chennai which Wright was running with Venkataraghvan as the expert working with the spinners. The names which remember are Raju, Sanghvi, Joshi, Kartik, Kulkarni, Ashish Kapoor, Sarandeep, Bhajji, Bahutule, Balaji Rao and Hirwani.

Don't remember that much.
