Trundler27 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Ashwin is a very good cricketer :hatsoff: and together with Ojha has done exceedingly well on a pitch tailor-made for the slower bowlers. Ashwin is a fairly useful lower order batter too and him and Ishant can make our tailenders pretty hard to dislodge :giggle: Both spinners on display for us in this test match are attacking spinners with lots of discipline and that is a wonderful combination! Plus we have a decent back-up in darty and maybe even rahul sharma.... so all of a sudden our spin stock looks better.

He is not just a mystery bowler, he flights the ball, bowls with a slightly different action in test's, also his bowling will be effective in all conditions, if u compare Kumble in terms of bowling style then it should be with R Sharma

aseemraina Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 The major difference between the Carrom Ball of Ashwin and Mendis is that Ashwin bowls it a little faster and the balls zips after pitching especially the ones he is been bowling in the Test Match.. It became easy to play the carrom ball of Mendis because batsmen get the extra time to pick the same....

Whether he can replicate this type of performance against better teams is yet to be seen, but the guy has got something about him that fascinates me. Ashwin is one of those rare Indian cricketers who does not have stage fright. He simply shows up & performs. The last Indian spinner to possess such attitude and mental strength was Kumble. Ashwin has rarely failed in his career so far. Be it IPL, CL, ODIs or Tests, he has always stood up to the challenge. Thrown in to a world cup match with zero match practice, he picked two against WI. Then, asked to open the bowling in a world cup quarter finals, with field restrictions in place, he got Watson! How many times has BhajaBhajan bowled in a power play ? Its sad that such a bright cricketer was kept out for our douche bag sardar who kept spewing one excuse after the other - dropped catches, the pitch, workload, T20 et al, for his pathetic no-show for a gazillion games. Not to mention shirking away from Engerland with a fake b00b injury. I am glad sardar is out of the team. Befriending the captain, playing politics and giving speeches can only keep you in the team for so long. Darty now has to bribe some Ranji batsmen to lower his average of infinity. And the moment he does that, you won't hear the end of him. Good riddance, in the mean time!

Karan114 Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 No matter what the pitch and opposition was like, nine wickets on debut is outstanding, especially were India were in trouble after the second day collapse. As Bumper rightly points out, Ashwin has just looked the part at whatever level he has been thrown into. Great prospect for Indian cricket. Obviously, life will get a lot harder on more lifeless pitches and against better batsmen, but he looks like he will cope with it.

Pagalpanti Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I remember Harbhajan using his doosra a lot early on and slowly players got used to it. The main reason he got ineffective and stopped bowling it. Ashwin uses the carrom ball well, bowls it once in a while, not every over.
BeautifulGame Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Bhajji's doosra will still be very effective if he uses them.But for some unknown reason he has stopped using them and suddenly he isnt half effective as he was before. Cant see him getting his form back unless he rediscovers his doosra.Even his top spinner doesnt seem as effective as it used to be.He has some serious work to do on his bowling IMO.A year of Ranji trophy will do him a world of good.
