Opening spell in Australia

Assuming we have a three seamer squad of PK, Ishant and Yadav in Australia, who would you have sharing the new ball?

Give the new ball to PK and see if there is some help for bowlers. He is most likely to get help if there is any. In case ball doesn't swing much, remove him from attack after 3 overs and bring Ishant. Keep shuffling them so that Yadav and Ishant bowl 4-5 overs with full pace and PK bowls longer spells.

Ishant is a much better bowler with the slightly old ball so he should be first change. I think Yadav will be a good new ball option and will complement PK due to the contrast in pace. If Dhoni could stand up to the stumps at some point that would be perfect..

It is less than 1 month before team will leave to Australia, just about one month before first warm up game. He has not started bowling in the nets yet. He will first have to prove his fitness through FC matches. WE do not want another England embarrassment. We hope he gets fit within one month to show that he is fit and can sustain 5-day cricket and 20 over a day bowling. Otherwise, we better pick other fit bowlers.

If Zak is unfit, PK and Yadav can be first choice bowlers. If the performance at Eden is anything to go by, Yadav packs quite a punch. Ishant can be the first change in which he'll come and pick up Ponting, thereby sending him into oblivion.

To a large extent, will depend on how the pacers bowl in the two practice matches. As of now, if Zak isn't fit, PK and Ishant would be front runners.

World T20 and 50 over medal winner should open. However, since he isn't a choice and you say Zak is injured. I would say Yadav and PK.

Would go for PK/Yadav too, PK to get first over. Could argue that bringing in Umesh as first change has two advantages- he will be a bit warmed up having fielded for 10 or so overs so can steam in from ball 1, and he may not be as nervous.

PK and Ishant for me. Ishant will get movement plus bounce whereas Yadav can steam in from ball one after he has been there for 30 odd minutes to kill the goosebumps :nice:

Ideally I would go with : Overs 1-8 : Yadav and Praveen Overs 9-12 : Ishant and Praveen Overs 13-18 : Ishant and Yadav Overs 19-22 : Praveen and Yadav Overs 23-28 : Praveen and Ishant Till lunch break and of course give the last over to the mandatory spinner.
