I also like April's(Aubrey Plaza) acting. Her expressions are brilliant. Love her dialougues, one liners. They totally go well with her acting.

We're keen supporters of both the England Cricket Team and Sherlock here at GQ - but for one contributor this weekend's drama on and off the field was just too painful to watch. Here John Naughton argues that the third series of Sherlock has more in common with Alastair Cook's Ashes disaster than you might think... At the conclusion of last night's glacially slow and teeth-grindingly dim-witted episode of Sherlock, I found myself struck by its similarity to something else which until recently had been vibrant, exciting and utterly gripping but has, in the blink of an eye turned to dross. Yes, Sherlock has chosen to ape the trajectory of English cricket. Both have transformed rapidly from the sublime to the unwatchable and both exhibit the same streak of complacency and a refusal to recognise the importance of the basics which had made them so good in the first place. Similar to the mood pervading the England camp which led to the famous watering of the Oval last summer, the new series of Sherlock reeks of smugness. Let's cast Benedict's real mum and dad as Sherlock's parents. Let's have Martin's real wife, Amanda Abbington, playing Watson's on-screen spouse, Mary. Let's recreate a piece of fan fiction as a hopelessly self-indulgent "explanation" of how Shelock could have faked his death. A frequent criticism of the BBC in recent times has been the suffocating layers of bureaucracy which have stifled creativity. So the fact that Steven Moffat has been granted the kind of leeway that Andy Flower has established within the England set-up is surely to be applauded. Except when things go wrong and there's no-one to raise a dissenting voice, the wheels can come off quite spectacularly. Sherlock has abandoned plot in favour of character. It's fallen in love with the not-very-original idea of placing the Holmes-Watson "bromance" front and centre and sacrificed the intricacies of mystery-resolution, the sine qua non of Sherlock Holmes. Unforgivably, it has also dropped the ball, Carberry-style, with Sherlock's character, making him sweat over the identity of killer and assassin in last night's episode, when in reality there was only one very obvious explanation. Moreover, Sherlock doesn't sweat. As England need to look across the seas to Australia for evidence of a team that has turned it around, so Sherlock should look across the Atlantic to Elementary for inspiration. Where Sherlock has grown flabby and self-indulgent, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, nearly 40 episodes down the line, still have a lean and hungry look and the tightly written scripts are everything Sherlock isn't. Maybe next Sunday's episode will be a corker. I hope so. But it's essentially a dead rubber. Nearly all the detectives in tv shows/books in the last 100 years have been inspired by Sherlock Holmes in one way or the other - he is the benchmark and will remain so for for many, many years. Its just that BBC has screwed up these last 2 episodes of Sherlock.

It was disappointing but don't think for the reasons you mentioned. The character is as eccentric as ever, actually more so this season with more dimensions being added, including emotional ones The writers are choosing smaller mysteries/deductions in between the emotional scenes. This is breaking the rhythm and continuity of the show which was a strong point of the past two seasons. Without the arch villian, Sherlock seems to have become softer. hope the third episode redeems itself

I agree but I also believe in them. I feel the writers/MOFFAT are trolling us so bad that they will end it in such a cliffhanger that you have to wait 2 years for the next season.

I like it as a standalone procedural but as Sherlock, the character doesnt come close to Cumberbatch's character and neither is the editing/writing of the same quality

It is a hbo show, which started last sunday, about two detectives Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson searching for a serial killer over a period of 17 years. The first episode was a little slow but it felt like it they are setting a great foundation and it is going ratchet up the tension and mystery over the rest of the season. Like you say, as a standalone, it's not a bad show. It seems, by coincidence, that the lead character has the same name as the famous fictional detective created by Conan Doyle. Apart from the name, the two characters do not have much in common. Sherlock Holmes of Elementary is a mockery of the original holmes. A very poor joke played by NBC.

Old guy Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 boston legal ...this is one of the best show i saw not for everyone i guess and as said in this thread before the practice can be better show for some people but this ism ore than court room drama.. alan shore's closings are something else even if too political but you can still appreciate it also relation with denny..some scenes like when denny talks about why he gets married so that he can tell stories and get admired you can see admiration on his face while listening glad i did not miss it :P
