@ akshay - Well a crowd of about 20000 in a stadium of a capacity of about 70000 does look ghost-like. Also, most people were sitting in Level - II , and they tend to merge with the background there. Only people sitting in Level I are clearly visible on TV.

@ ganesh - using Saurav as a first name would be a pretty poor form of disguise. ;-) @ daryl - Gambhir DID NOT get booed, the crowd cheered the fact that Sachin is next. In a nutshell, the crowd was pretty happy to see Gambhir's back, but no one BOOED him or anything.

I think Dravid has hit four centuries after turning 38 and seven after turning 37. Brilliant. Dispels the myth about a prior discussion here regarding batsmen unable to bat after 37/38. Super duper :yay:

Question is not if you can bat after 37/38, but rather if you fail, do you have a chance of comeback ? Yuvraj is good example ...even though he failed (i think he made his Test debut in 2003?) in Test...he has has come back so many times. But if big 3 fail ...will selectors give them any more chance ??..Who will take their place and is it logical to expect RD,VVS and SRT keep performing forever ???

Indian batting’s golden generation is literally taking turns to embarrass detractors. Ganguly set the ball rolling with a standout 2007, when he topped the run scoring charts after being dropped for the entire year of 2006. Then Sehwag came into the team after more than a year of test wilderness in 2008 and has played some of the most remarkable test innings you could hope to see. Sachin too, began his revival about the same time and finished 2010 averaging 85 in tests. Now, it’s the turn of Dravid. The only guy who has stood firm through all his highs and lows for the other is VVS, which is a testament to his quality and greatness. I don’t think anyone could have possibly imagined 3-4 years ago that our ageing middle order would still be going strong, going into 2012. Just goes on to show that, especially for batsmen in tests, age is merely a number. And that’s probably more reason why Australia’s decision to drop Simon Katich in favor of the much younger Phil Hughes is so effed up.

thanks, that's a nice write up. if you go for another day, update the OP. good move to drop the ticket prices. tendulkar, dravid, laxman are in the final years of their respective careers and they deserve to play in front of bigger crowds. i am sure the aussies will be far more appreciative and will probably sell out several days of each test match when india tours later this winter.

1986/87 Kapil-Azza Kanpur redux Dhoni's innings reminds of one of Kapil Dev's best innings in Test cricket. It came against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in 1986/87 series. Azza was batting at 70+ (just like how another Hyderabadi Lax was batting at 70+) when Kapil arrived (when another Hanuman by name Dhoni arrived) Even as Azza (Lax) reached his 100 Kapsy (Dhoni) was close to 50. By the time Azza (Lax) reached 150 Kapsy (Dhoni) was around 100. Kapil got out for 169 with Azza still batting around 170. Azza finished on 199! Right now, as I type this, Lax = 168, Dhoni = 138 Total Kanpur redux Lukrer, remember that kapsy knock?
