Dhoni in test cricket cannot build an innings that is required from a number 6 batsman. He can come in when the score is high and blast away to a finish. Dhoni averages 41 in Indian conditions. You put too much emphasis on stats and miss that FC stats might not be the true reflection of international potential. Why isnt Badri in the test squad? Why isnt Jogi or VK in the squad? All of them have great stats. Why should we not pick Yusuf Pathan in Indian conditions. He averages 41 with the bat and 31 with the ball. The reason is that bits and pieces cricketers dont survive in Test cricket. Players like Jaddu are very handy in ODIs but tests require genuine all rounders like watson, Kallis etc Err.We already do that.What do u think is picking 3 fast bowlers away from home and 2 spin + 2 fast combination in India ? What we should pick is the best combination that wins matches based on the conditions.5 bowlers are the best way to take 20 wkts in Indian flat wkts. And we dont need 7 quality batsmen in Indian conditions where the pitches are flat particularly when we have 4 all time greats in our batting line up. And yes Dhoni is a high quality batsman in test cricket too in Indian conditions. Our players dont rotate based on home and away. Only the final 11 changes based on the conditions. Our greats are going to go in the next 2 years. we still havent been able to replace Ganguly. By picking hacks like Jadeja and Yuvraj we wont be doing the batting any favours, neither will they do well in bowling. 6+4+1 is the combination India is going with unless we find an actual all rounder.

If he's so injury prone then it's better to look for other options. It's high time that we ditch players like UV etc. and get proper long term replacements..

I have no idea what u are basing jadeja is a bits and pieces cricketer and not a genuine all rounder? He has the Ranji record and performed in Duleep trophy too.If that isnt enough what do u want from a genuine all rounder. The only way to find out is by giving chances in test cricket.The fact is Jadeja has performed exceptionally as a all rounder in domestic cricket. And even without pointing out the FC record he has the technique both in batting in bowling to be a genuiene all rounder and i am aint saying this just based on FC record. My mistake i should have made it specific.I was referring to his period after he took over captaincy and matured as a batsmen.He is far superior now as a batsmen and showed maturity matching it in the last 3 or 4 years to what he was before that time. Since that time i think he average 47 or 48 in test cricket.He certainly has the ability to build and innings and bat for long periods.So we are under utilizing his batting abilities in indian conditions.By promoting him to no.6 we can also have experience in the middle order when the Big 3 retires.

If the Yadavs and Aarons were not given chances, we wouldn't have known any of their potentials..However I'm up for giving right candidates chances at the 'right place'. It intridues me that Aron sat on the bench thoughout the England ODi series. That was missed chance. This shouldn't be repeated in future. If you want to test out players in different formats, test them out in places where they can create a good impact. IMO VK, Jaddu and others should get chance to play Test cricket and a chance to give a good account of themselves.

I'll go for Aaron if it has to be a seamer,Umesh hasn't done anything wrong but I think Aaron is a better option.But in Eden gardens the pitch is low & slow turner & will help the spinners so Rahul Sharma is also a good option.Who's your pick?

Understandably, Eden curator Prabir Mukherjee who has been in the business since 1989 is under some pressure. Even as the 80-year-old maintains that there's no added pressure on him, his recent hush-hush meeting with CAB boss Jagmohan Dalmiya tells a different story. The CAB refuses to confirm but sources claim the Board has sent instruction to the curator for a specific tailor-made wicket, especially after India's Twenty20 loss to England on October 29. Incidentally, there was an air of displeasure among the Bengal and Gujarat cricketers during their Ranji Trophy Super League opener earlier this week. But the Eden curator asserted that an ideal Test wicket had been laid out for the second Test. "People love to make concocted stories. saneindian Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 The same guy refused MSD's request of cutting down grass for the 2nd test vs SA last year, but we went on to win that test. Let him roll out any type of wicket, we would still win. If its a grassy track, we have the option of going with 3 seamers.
