With Gambhir and Sehwag it seems like a Trend now - both have gone into this mode of going for fast runs. All the innings so far have left us 100 odd for 2 are 4 rpo. It is good if one of them plays fast but one has to slow down and look to build an innings. you can't always hit your way to a 100. And all this on flat tracks. I don't know what will happen against Aus

Haven't seen much of this series, but this doesn't sound good. He is a pretty reliable bat. Saw quality in the CLT20 at the start, can't remember if he scored much later. He'll be back, too good a batsman to not be scoring heavy again

Going nearly two years without a hundred is definitely a big concern for any Test opener (though his runs in SA were vital all the same). I guess the various injuries have hindered him in that time. Hopefully he can get a big one soon - in this series he has gotten starts in each innings at least.

To be honest, its not really that bad. But watching him bat these days, you can tell that the clarity and assurance that so characterized his batting in 2008-09 is missing now. There's a lot of airy-fairy wafts outside off-stump. He doesnt drive in front of the wicket as much as he used, but instead resorts to risky glides down to the third-man for a large proportion of his runs. Something's not right with Gambhir, and only he knows what it is.

When he bats well, GG plays in the V and has a solid defense. Right now lots of cross batted swipes, the cheeky shots through the gully region and some uncharacteristic shots leading to his downfall. But despite all that, he has been getting starts, hasn't exactly struggled for runs he has been scoring.

Gambhir is an adrenaline player. He needs some confidence at the moment. He is looking a bit out of place these days in the Test team. I hope he is given few more chances cos when he gets going, he is a big run-getter and forms one half of the best opening partnership in Indian cricket's history.

the same gambhir avges 57 in odis with a sr of 92 in the last 2 years. and it was due to gambhirs 97 that we won the wc and just like how gambhi did well in sa, avging 53 in tests, gambhir will do well in aus also in the tests

Agree with the OP. We had this debate last week as well. He definitely isn't at his best and hasn't been for a year and half now in tests. I don't think it's a major worry though and hopefully one big knock will get him back into top form.

To me it looks like he is batting well, he was just unlucky to be given out in this match. I am sure a big hundred is just around the corner. Gambhir may not be the most talented batsman in the team but his commitment to the game and the team is unquestionable.

He is batting well but trying a few things soon in his innings... he chases balls too wide to drive early on with the new ball ... however by no means he is out of form... he needs to control his mind a little and bat with a little more patience and being a stroke player his runs will always come
