Vinay Kumar is awful and should not be anywere near the Indian team!!!

i am not too sure about Mohit at the death either. From what i have seen in the IPL MSD used him up front and he rarely bowled at the death. I would actually keep 3 Bhuvi overs for the death. He is not that bad a bowler. As things stand Ishant seems to be our death overs bowler along with Sir. So Vinay can bowl out his quota before overs 35. In case of Mohit, i remember him being smashed around by the English batsman at the death for a List A game for India A v England in India. It was on skysports highlights earlier this year.
Ishant is a rubbish death overs bowler mostly.Yes I agree about BK.He should bowl at the death.I am also not sure about spinners bowling in the death, whether Ashwin or Jaddu. Maybe we need to groom a specialist bowler,by telling someone to just practice bowling yorkers and slower balls.among youngsters I have seen Sid Kaul getting in the yorker right

are you saying that Kohli selected this squad? maybe he has more powers than Dhoni as a captain.
i dont think he selected the squad. Vinay was in the side for the windies and even the champions trophy. Probably just persisted with him. playing 11 is in hands of coach and captain.

I think Mishra is a decent bat. Not an out and out tailender. He also adds variety with the ball being a leg spinner. He is not a good fielder i agree. But still deserves a chance. Is 30 and easily play for another 4-5 years. I am sure Rasool too will get his chance, but he will replace Sir as the all rounder. Vinay was the leading wicket taker in the IPL. Deserved his chance. Has better ODI stats than Umesh. I am sure Mohit will be given a chance in this series as well.
Not Vinay but Mohit was the standout Indian pacer in IPL. Vinay had an ER of 8. Point is Vinay is not a future, not prospect. He neither is a consistent member of Indian team now. People expect him to bowl at death due to his experience and that is why he is in the team. I dont think any young bowler will do worse than him. Here I question the thinking of selectors. I dont know why would play a bowler who has shown that he cannot an international material. Age is not on his side too but we are still persisting with him. The matches he is playing can be used to groom any other young pacer likes of Dhawal, Kaul, Mohit, Suyal, etc.

Thing is Mohit has a knack of picking up wickets front especially if there is something in the wicket. If he an do that I will take him. He has decent variations to to bowl at death and until he bowls, you wont know. This is how you groom players. Dont think he is going to do worse than what Vinay did yesterday.

but what we need is a death bowler. We already have BK for initial overs.Shami/Yadav can do okay job too.We needed to pick bowlers who can bowl at death. I hope Mohit does it
This is how it is going to be till Aaron comes back. He and BK will be two first choice pick for ODIs once fit.

Vinay is just 29. He easily can be part of Indias ODI plans for the next 4-5 years. The fact is he was bowling well in the first 10. Zim batsman did not take any risks and decided to play him out. I doubt Mohit would make a difference as he would bowl in the channel outside off stump they would just leave it. He does not come across as a bowler to attacks the stumps. IPL aside vinay has got a strong list A and ranji record. While he is not good enough as a test bowler. Mohit has had one good IPL season.

Mohit also had a good FC season. We can still play Vinay but I dont see him a long term option.

I am not holding my breath for Aaron.guy seems made of glass. We need to look somewhere else
Every genuine pacer suffers injuries, especially back injuries. He is not the first one. Likes of Johnson, Anderson were as injury prone as him in their early years.

thats the point though. Mohit has had one good IPL and FC season. Personally speaking i am getting a bit worried that one good season propels the likes of Sid Kaul or Mohit into the team/A team. For me they need to complete 2-3 good seasons. Bhuvi came into team India having played plenty of domestic cricket at a good average and strike rate. Ie he was proven over time. If you dont like Vinay then surely Punkaj singh needs to be given a go along with somebody like Kulkarni. These guys have performed over a period of time. Even Shami for that matter. Barely 15 FC and 27 List A games and he is playing for India. Stop rushing people through to the international level. We made the same mistake with Ishant. Pushed into the side too early. Would be better with 3-4 ranji seasons under his belt.

@ g_b I don't agree completely with you,if a guy is good enough he should be picked early,it's not just for batsmen, but for bowlers as well,I have seen guys who have done well even without playing any domestic cricket, though they are exception, but pitches in India only during recent years have tended to help bowlers,it's all about mental toughness ,if u r good enough, you will grab ur opportunity as early as possible.

Someone like Ishant Sharma is a vitally important bowler because he's one of the few guys that has naturally good bounce and decent pace and is a hit the deck seam bowler. Domestic cricket produces plenty of swing bowlers but very few genuine seam bowlers and you need variety in your attack. But Sharma never got a chance to work on fine tuning his length. THAT's what seperates guys like Stuart Clark from younger seam bowler's like Ishant. Stuart Clark only came into the Australian setup when he was much older and by that time he was a master of hitting that perfect length creating indecision in the batsmen's mind. Combine that with his excellent upright seam and Clark was at times every bit as good as McGrath and with faster natural air speed. Finn has the same problem. He's an elite talent but any time the batsmen take him on or he doesn't get into a good rhythm his loses his length and line immediately and doesn't get it back at all. Usually guys that spend much longer in domestic cricket are mentally tougher and more accurate. Sharma is having to learn how to control his lengths in international cricket where every error is magnified and punished as opposed to domestic cricket where he can get away with it.

Look if was upto me i would have a minimum of 40 first class/List A/ T20 games after which a batsman or bowler is selected regardless of age. Sometimes you just need to know you game better. I get a feeling is Ishant was introduced to international cricket today he would have much more control in what he does. Too much in the limelight and too early. Not saying he would be world class but maybe instead of averaging 38 with the ball in test he would be averaging 30-32 which is respectable for a subcontinent fast bowler. Our strength as a nation has always been spin and batting. What we need are 4-5 pace bowlers who can average 30-32 with the ball over a long period in ODI and Test cricket. I get a feeling that Bhuvi and Umi might be the ones in test cricket atleast. While Bhuvi is the one for ODIs. Need to find 3 more bowlers who can do that. Vinay for me has the potential to be our 30-32 averaging pace bowler who can bat a bit

You can't compare Clark with Finn or ishant, heck even Finn and ishant comparison would be unfair to Finn ,firstly Clark was very smart bowler, which unfortunately ishant isn't,he was a better fielder and a better bat then ishant,Finn is a wicket taker whose got pace bounce,he may be a bit wayward ,but is a wicket taker, how many guys have taken Finn to the cleaners in comparison to sharma, how much junaid, wasim, waqar, inzi, tendu, even cheats like aamir played.
