Karan114 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Pitch it up more but it's easier said than done since his natural length is short of good. Agreed - unfortunately its an issue that he will always have to grapple with.
kabira Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 He has height, which has great advantage ask any batsman, they would be relunctant to come on front food, he needs to pitch the bowl up. that will fetch him wickets. Walsh was similar type of bowler. The biggest asset that Walsh had was consistence and persistence. He would never tire.
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 One of the reasons Sree will never become a very good Indian bowler. That and the fact that he is mentally unstable. Sad but true. Do you throw terms like mentally unstable around very easily? Do you know the criteria required to diagnose someone with a mental illness and the principles of the mental state examination? Exactly.
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Dude' date=' can you stop derailing every thread with this non-sense? if you can't make meaningful contributions, please stay away. Thanks.[/quote'] If you go up, you will see I was provoked by Punjabi Khota whilst I discussed Ishant's problem. He was talking about Ishant and Sree's brain, so how about you tell him to stop derailing the thread?
amiret Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 He has been bowling quite well in England Please tell us you are joking. In the Test series he took 11 wkts for 640 runs.Avg of 58 & a Strike rate NINETY FOUR.
amiret Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Ishant is a shadow of the guy we saw in Australia in '08. His action seems to have changed. On most occasions he was unplayable in Aus and they were scared of him.
Ultimate_Game Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 He needs to pitch the ball a little up to the batsman. Now he keeps on beating the bat but the ball misses the edge. If he pitches it a bit further he will start getting edges. Courtney mentioned Ambrose's bowling in 93 against Aussies and said that Ambrose kept on beating the edge but didn't get too many wkts in the first 2-3 tests. As soon as he pitched the ball further up, he got 6 wkts for not much.
rkt.india Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I think Ishant needs 2-3 good' date=' hard full domestic seasons. He has been bowling alright but has nothing to show in the Wickets column. If he plays domestic cricket he will learn about his own bowling and more importantly he will learn a lot about how to pick wickets.[/quote'] How domestic cricket will make him learn how to take wickets? He takes wickets in domestic whenever he has played and even before his debut he was taking wickets in domestic. It is all about his bowling style. His action has changed and has become better that what it was when he debuted, but his problem is he is not bowling with good seam position. He will have to work on it that is why he is not getting extra bounce and more movement off the pitch he used to get before.
vvvslaxman Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 He has to make the ball do something. If not he should probe the batsmen for long periods not just 1 or 2 balls. He has to identify comfort zone of each batsman and operate outside it. In short he hasnt learnt the art of setting up batsmen
jonas10 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I disagree with most...I think the most important thing for Ishant to do is use his size. There is absolutely no reason why he cant be our McGrath.
Lord Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 no hes not bowling well.yes pace is good but thats not everything, hes not making the batsmen play often, its outside off most of the time,or he tends tobowl on leg stump. I do not agree that he should bowl full, rather he should use his height n hit the deck hard like Morkel, also he needs to be consistent,as of now Umesh seems a bbetter option than him

Look at his bowling figures in 1st innings. 32 overs 82 runs. He is not giving batsman any freebies and keeping pressure all the time. It shows that he is in good rhythm and bowling well, just luck is not with him.

No...McGrath used to do it with seam which is not happening with Ishant right now as he is bowling with poor seam position. As he gets is back, he will again bowl those inswingers. And regarding economy, you do not expect fast bowlers to take 5-fers on these pitches, his good economy rate helps spin bowlers to attack from the end and drying the run and building pressure is another way to take wickets especially on flat tracks.

mani0993 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Be consistent & persistent. He seems to bowl few good bowls in the good length area and then again go off to the leg side full deliveries or the off side short length one's.
asterix Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 He's "consitent & persistent" in his wide off stump line which the batsmen can leave all day long. Also his bowling follow through has issues and appears to be heavy landing which will take it's toll on his foot..Being a 'hit the deck' bowler, he needs to get his line and length right as he heavily depends upon the pitch condition..He needs to develope some swing/seam in his deliveries. At present it's gun barrel straight on the off stump line which batsmen can happily leave all day long..
Pagalpanti Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Like most of them have said he needs to learn to adjust his length in SC pitches. Short length will work only pitches like WI and Aus. He needs to be a little fuller in places like Eng, SC.
Dravid_TheWall Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I think he will do reasonably well in Aus and retain his place. That is not good for long term.
