CA announce Chairman's XI squads to face India New Delhi: Cricket Australia's (CA) National Selection Panel on Friday announced the squads for the two Cricket Australia Chairman's XI matches against India, which kick off India's upcoming tour Down Under. The squads led by Tasmania's Ed Cowan and New South Wales' David Warner will play a two-day and three-day match against the visiting Indian team on December 15-16 and December 19-21 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. In a press release circulated by CA, the national selector John Inverarity said. "The two Cricket Australia ChairmanÃÔ XI games against India provide opportunities for many of our promising young players to display their talents and to gain experience against some legendary Indian players. "In the second of these two Cricket Australia ChairmanÃÔ XI matches a number of players in contention for the Vodafone Boxing Day Test squad will have the opportunity to press their claims." The announcement of the squads brought some good news for Australia as the second of the two warm-up games will mark the return of batsman Shaun Marsh from injury. "In the second game, Shaun Marsh will be making his return from injury," Inverarity added. Isnt Tom Cooper a netherlands player?

Yes he was, but has always lived in Australia, but qualified for the Netherlands due a parents heritage and passport. He is allowed to play for Australia any time even tough he played only last year for Netherlands, different rules for associate teams. Once he has played for the proper aussie team he then would have to go and live there to qualify if he chose to take that path.

Cowan subbed into Chairman's XI for ailing Marsh Daniel Brettig December 13, 2011 Ed Cowan, the Tasmania opening batsman, is edging closer to Test selection following his transfer from the first to the second of two tour matches against the Indian touring side in Canberra in order to cover for the ailing Shaun Marsh. The change has been made partly to accommodate the wishes of the Sydney Sixers, Cowan's Twenty20 Big Bash League team. But it is also to replace Marsh, who has been ruled out of the Cricket Australia Chairman's XI because his problematic back, which flared during the first Test against South Africa in Cape Town last month, is still not up to the rigours of batting. Originally, Cowan had been selected as captain of the team for the first tour match, a two-day affair starting on Thursday. However he will now play for the Sixers in their competition opener against the Brisbane Heat at the SCG on Friday, before going on to Canberra for the three-day fixture against the Indians from Monday, December 19. Ryan Broad, the Queensland opening batsman, has replaced Cowan in the squad for the first tour match and will captain the side, which is composed of players uninvolved in the BBL. Cowan, 29, has made centuries in three of his past five first-class innings for Tasmania and Australia A. Marsh's difficulties give Cowan a chance of consideration for a debut, given that changes will be made to the team that lost by seven runs to New Zealand. Shane Watson is likely to return to the squad as a batsman if not an allrounder, and the national selectors must deliberate on numerous players who failed to make a strong enough case in Hobart. Pat Howard, CA's team performance manager, said the compromise between the Sixers and the tour match had been agreed after an update on Marsh's faltering fitness. "Our long term planning for the Boxing Day Test had been based around the principle that all fit players would be available for round one T20 Big Bash League games and then their focus will turn towards their individual preparation plans for the first Test against India," Howard said. "While we are hopeful, Shaun's chances of recovering sufficiently in order to be considered for the first Test against India are considered unlikely at this stage." One other forced change has been made to the team for the first tour match, with the SA seam bowler Joe Mennie withdrawn due to a hip complaint. His place has been taken by the Queensland legspinner Cameron Boyce.

The Queenslander was only called into the team on Tuesday as a late replacement for Ed Cowan, who has been summoned to play in the Big Bash League opener for the Sydney Sixers on Friday night. Broad has assumed the leadership duties as well and made it perfectly clear the Chairman's XI are out to make life difficult for India in their preparations for the first Test on Boxing Day. Advertisement: Story continues below The opening batsman said his side have a job to do for Australian cricket in the opening two-day match at Manuka Oval. "I'm not sure how the Indians are going to want to play it but we're definitely going to play a good aggressive and positive brand of cricket," said Broad. "If we win the toss we'll probably look to have a bat and bat as long as possible and really set the tone of the match. "If we can get out there and put on a good display with the bat and make sure they're toiling out there in the hot sun, I think that can only benefit the Test team in a few weeks. "Any way we can help out and make (the Australian Test team's) job a little bit easier, we'll be trying to press that advantage home." India are due to hold an optional training session at Manuka on Wednesday afternoon, with the remainder of their touring squad having arrived in Canberra in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
