saneindian Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Ishant has ankle checked; team management says he's fine Amid growing concern over his fitness, India pacer Ishant Sharma is learnt to have got his troublesome ankle checked by a doctor in Canberra on Friday. The Indian camp, though, maintained that there is nothing serious with the pacer, who walked off the field after bowling just 5.3 overs on the opening day of the first practice match against CA Chairman's XI on Thursday, in the run-up to the first Test on December 26. "There is no worry on him. He had some discomfort while bowling and he has seen a doctor. Hopefully, he should be fit before the first Test," said batsman Rohit Sharma, who scored 56 in the drawn match at the Manuka Oval on Friday. So in 24 hours, we have moved from the story of strappings on his ankle had come out and he was to bowl only 6 overs to "he has some discomfort" and a meeting with a specialist. Wouldn't be a surprise if in a couple of days we find him returning home.
ganeshran Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Ishant's tour is most probably over. BCCI is saving face by letting the news out gradually rather than a dramatic breaking down

Knowing Dhoni's record of not taking chances with Injured player expect Mithun in the Team at MCG

Sachin=GOD Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Despite all the money that has come in Indian cricket, the BCCI's media management still remains pathetic. If he has an injury they should come out and say so and call a replacement immediately.

So very predictable and exactly why most people don't trust a word from the Indian management about injuries/player availability. The "he's fine, he was only scheduled to bowl six overs" lie was utterly laughable, anyway. At least send him back early this time instead of pretending he will be okay and keeping around him till the third Test like they did Zaheer in England.
G_B_ Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 hmm i guess we need to wait till monday if he plays in that and bowls a good number of overs, he is not injured. a repeat of this and he has problems.
asterix Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Why do players hide their injuries? They try to keep their places in the team (by hiding their injuries), especially of effing important tours..It's like getting admitted in a private nursing home the moment police comes to arrest you..
bulbul Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Why people are worried....its chance to your favourites for entry into team :winky:
Karan114 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 hmm i guess we need to wait till monday if he plays in that and bowls a good number of overs, he is not injured. a repeat of this and he has problems. Everything points to him already being injured and out of the tour. But in their typical deceiving, obfuscating fashion, the Indian management is only gradually releasing the news. But to go from "his ankle strapping came off" to "he needed to see a doctor because of discomfort" in 24 hours makes it very likely that things are really bad.

He was bowling flat out vs WI in all 3 tests. Bowled long spells and his avg speed was way more than normally what he has bowled at. Never looked in any sort of trouble at all. Could have aggravated an old problem during practice.

As things stand the odds do point to Ishant being injured. Even if he is not injured if he in this state now, how is he going to last 4 match series? But, we have to give him some benefit of the doubt. If Aaron was fit i would say axe Ishant and dont take the risk. But with Vinay and Mithun as back ups. I will take my chances with Ishant
kubrickian Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 There are reports that Ishant is not going to play the second warm up game. If his injury is not serious, why would he rule himself out of the 2nd game and only bowl 5.3 overs in the 1st one. Also did anyone notice Zaheer didnt play the warm up game ? These games are supposed to be crucial to prove his fitness. So how is he going to prove he is fit without playing ? So it seems Zak and Ishant are both doubtful for 1st test and the bowling lineup may be an all rookie attack - Umesh, Mithun, Vinay and Ashwin. Its like the England tour all over again.

Old guy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Ishant gets his ankle checked by doctor so he got his ankle checked.. and would probably not play next warm up http://cricketnext.in.com/news/ishant-gets-his-ankle-checked-by-doctor/62331-13.html im seriously losing trust in team management yesterday it was just some strapping getting lose now doctor checks it and he might now play next warm up game seriously if he is iinjured they should send replacement downplaying injury wont help any one
Lord Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 ankle?I thought his strapping got loose:hmmm: I hope BCCI ends this drama n send Gony or Dinda there instead of Ishant
saneindian Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 ankle?I thought his strapping got loose:hmmm: I hope BCCI ends this drama n send Gony or Dinda there instead of Ishant Gony is already injured.
Needforspeed Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Dinda should be sent immediatly..after all 9 days still left for the boxing day test. Let them retain Ishant in Australia itself. No way Mithun or VK should be in the playing XI.
