BCCI asks selectors to create 'a pool of bowlers'

MRF holds 2 camps(2 weeks a camp) a year which are not good enough. Even our BCCI academies hold 2-3 week camps. How they are gonna make players or refine bowlers in that short period of time.

well you cant expect them to hold camps during the ranji season right? Playing is important. Dont you think 4 weeks + domestic season is a significant approach? the only thing i can think of is the BCCI appoints good bowling coaches for each ranji team (about 20).

For identifying the fast bowling talent the BCCI should start from scratch. 1. Appoint a bowling consultant for this task, preferably a foreigner (to avoid any possibility of bias) with the necessary credentials. 2. Provide him with support staff/ talent scouts who will cast the net wide by touring the country. Come up with a list of 40-50 bowlers. 3. Call these bowlers to NCA at the Board's expense. 4. Put them through a rigrous on-field selection process in front of the bowling consultant. 5. Based on his observations he should short list 15 bowlers and also come up with the top 5 from the 15. 6. Once the pool is created the Bowling consultant and his staff become responsible for their development and the selectors also should monitor their progress. 7. The list should be reviewed and updated once a year.

Agree. Still, Pankaj, Tyagi, Dinda, RP, Mithun, Dhawal all these can be part of this pool of bowlers.

I think there needs to be some streamlining to the selection make India A side a passage to the main side. 5 bowlers on tour with the main team 5 bowlers on tour with the A team. I think the BCCI needs to organise more India A matches in Aus Sa and England. You will automatically get a pool of 10 bowlers.

:two_thumbs_up: I also remember that Manpreet Gony was picked for the Bangladesh Tri Series in 2008 and also played in a couple of matches. After that he never got to play for India. And this has been happening for a long line of pacers - Yograj Singh (Yuvi's father), Salil Ankola, Vivek Razdan, Sunil Valson, Abey Kuruvilla ...the list is endless.

Maybe Unadkat & Chahar will get selected ahead of someone among these guys but personally I'll not select them ahead of these guyz. Zak,Ishant,Umesh,Aaron,PK & Vinay:hehe: are our premier bowlers right now.

I really wonder sometimes luck can play such a big role in someone's success. I am talking about Vinay Kumar. I have nothing against this guy. I am happy for his success. The only problem that we guys have is, He is representing World Champion Indian side fast bowling. But, 9 out of 10 guys(in India as well as outside India) would really wonder how he able to make a permanent place in this Indian team. Having seen today Zaheer, Ishant and Umesh, even Australians will be hoping to play against VK. Even Zaheer who is 34 yrs old, was bouncing and rushing the Australians. When Zaheer in rhythm, he can create havoc in the opposition camp in a very short period of time. Today, we saw great exhibition of fast bowling. Even, Australians were admiring all over. But, we just can't expect same thing from VK at all whereas he is just a new-comer. He should bowl his heart out

What is the point of an arbitrary number of 15? Surely if there is a pool of top quality bowlers, it should be of varying size?
