Every transaction at the counter ends with both parties thanking each other few times, there is please for everything .. even yes is not just "yes" most of the times its "Yes please". When I arrived in the US, I found Americans rude for the first few days. In Australia everybody asks you "how r u" yes even at target or kmart or even McDonalds.. here they just stare at u and if u ask how are you they just look at u and pause for a min n then say either "fine" or " what do u want"

If you think people at american stores are rude, go to Indian store in US. Their face oozes with displeasure serving you.

The place where I live, we have lot of native ameicans living here, and and they will over their " you need any help" "HOW ARE YOU" and stuff like that. It all depends though. In south I guess they are bit different.

People in south or midwest are more hospitable, less so in NorthEast or West coast.

California is kinda like that. Once you travel around a bit you will get all your fair share of "How are you", "How was your weekend" yada yada

New YOrk, pretty rude, Maryland chilled out folks, they take their own sweet time in everything, and very friendly. Especially in hilly region of Maryland, the west Maryland.
