The MMD you get in BA is not the real stuff, but you like it because it is appealing to local folk and people like you. Back in India, food is unmatchable to anything we get here. Dude, the MMD in MTR is not palatable for anyone unless your head is buried in the sand. I love tasty food, preferably spicy and the MMD at MTR was anything but tasty or spicy. I also had MDs all over the place from Bangalore to Hosur to Chennai and the MDs I get here in the US is as good if not better than those. BTW, I did not say food in the US is in general is better than in India. I just said there are places in the US which make better tasting Indian food than many places even in India. Ofc food back home is the authentic stuff, duh! We visited the local Saravana Bhavan in Sunnyvale this weekend and the food was awesome. I also had breakfast from Saravana in Chennai and food was extremely tasty there too. The US has some pretty good Indian places too, especially now a days.

Overall, of course India beats any country hands down lekin you find some nice places growing around the world too. Also, the food in India seems to be going down as we tend to absorb more of Western influences. Ghar mein larkiyan, aur larke, banate nahin kuch so I suppose thats also hurting. Last time I was in Delhi and it did let me down a bit. I agree with your overall sentiment but idhar bhi kaafi saare acche places hain Nescafe saab :sniffle:

No way. My sentiment wasthat altho there are good places (Utsav in NYC near timesquare is pretty good), but if I am asked to compare to any common restaurant in India, it falls flat. I don't agree that the MTR dosa has it worse than the stuff we get here. Are all the people who crowd that place wearing sandpaper hats? Dosa in Saravana Bhavan (NJ) is the worst I have eaten anywhere. I can make better Masala Dosa at home than what we get there.

Biryani Cuisine --- Minneapolis, MN <<< very pricey but boy their biryani melts in your mouth Bombay Bistro, Teji's, Sarovar --- Austin, TX Bombay Bistro<<<< Best Indian lunch buffet in my opinion....menu ranging from aloo tikki/chana appetizer cooked in front of you to Goat curry along w/ delicious kheer/ gajar ka halwa for dessert <<< all for less than $12 Teji's -- They make Hyderabadi Dum Biryani -- only on Fridays and it is extremely tasty Sarovar -- Love their Goat Biryani & Chicken 65 Shahnahi Restaurant -- Houston, TX --- Best Goat curry I have tasted so far ...Pakis might not be inventors or scholars or known for tolerance but boy they make one helluva goat curry/biryani none of the Indian restaurants in Houston has so far made me WOW...they're more or less average

I loved the food but I'm not sure if I will ever go there. Food in US is much better than what's available in Aus and it's cheaper

Next time you are in town gimme a holla, I'll take you to himilayas.Best biryani I had in the U.S hands down.Shahnai is a disgrace to biryani. for houston if you are a non-veg : Bundu khan keabab house . Darband seesh keabab. Cafe Ranosh- sheesha and authentic food.(if you can bear crappy customer service). For veg: Bombay sweets and Dakshin maybe.I haven't ate at bombay bizzare -seems expensive .

The food is average at best, the prices are exorbitant and the hosts are really rude (in the NY one). In our last visit, 3 of us were asked to share a table that was like 2 feet by 2 feet. there's no way i can eat under those public-kitchen conditions, we moved to another table. When the waiter came back, he pretty much demanded that we go back to the smaller table, even though the restaurant was pretty empty at that time! Those b@st@rds even charge for extra sambar. That seals the deal for me - no more patronizing these guys.

Ram Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 From my experience here, far and away the best Indian restaurant I have been is called Tandoor Indian Cuisine at Tampa, Fl. They served some of the most delicious (primarily) South Indian food you can ever get your hands on (both veg and non-veg). Generally, with most restaurants, if you like the food the first time, you tend to go back. However, by the 3rd or 4th time, the taste starts to wear on you. However, with Tandoor, my room-mates and I went there almost once a week, for nearly a 2 years! And we still couldnt enough of it. Its a family owned restaurant owned by Mallus, so you dont get the commerical-establishment feel. The owner is a really nice dude and his wife(the cook) makes stunning food. The best part is - their dishes have a distinct home-cooked feel about them, unlike 99.99999% of other restaurants where you can tell your curry was made in a container that was 10 foot tall and 3 feet wide and there has been no real care. If you ever go to Tampa and drive by Brandon, make sure you stop over here if you can. And if you eat, special recommendation for the fish curry (my punjabi roomie absolutely LOVED it!)

Cybervickey, Himalayas (Houston) didnt appeal to me man. :(( They did have a great dessert, kind of bread pudding that I liked. Spekaing of Houston, is that Cinema6 still around?
