Cricketics Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Okay, so I was changing tv channels and noticed cricket match coming on Sahara One. They were telecasting this CCL - Celebrity cricket league. I have noticed this before too, but I couldn't imagine so much crowd. I didn't see any empty seat. The game was being played in the Bangalore's Chinnaswamy stadium. Game in which actors of different language movie industries were participating. You have Sunil shetty ,VaruN Badola playing for Bollywood team and stuff like that. Full crowd, teams playing so passionately. Players celebrating as if it's India-Pak game gong on. People in the crowd wearing their team jerseys. Player's dugout is full of energy like an IPL game. after watching all of that I was like - WTF. I mean it's nice to see cricket being played everywhere, but people in India surely got lot of time and money. Seems like they love being part of this mediocrity. I wish only if these guys can turn up to support the Indian players in Chenai Open - Only world class Tennis event which India gets to host or some other sports in which India or an Indian represents.
Alchemist Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I have felt like this many time, especially people taking days off to watch cricket at home. Though I have to say, when I was in India, it seemed normal.
Clarke Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Movie stars, right ? Watch those Hindu ads and this wouldn't come as surprising. It does make $h1t out of cricket some way or the other, be it the IPL or the 'agneepath' series. What's the word, manhoos ?
nballa Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 well the quality of cricket is no worse than being currently dished out by the national team, so might as well enjoy it.
Sid Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Apparently when one of the anchors of the league while interviewing Karnataka team's owner, asked him about these huge turn outs for the matches ,his response was,"This is why I feel CCL is the future of cricket " :cantstop:

Also, the cult of celebrity is something I've never understood.
