My Last two plane trips I had this on the descent..the pain is so severe that i thot my head was going to explode . Never have experienced anything like that & both the times it was for the last 15mins before landing & within a few mins after that it was gone . Any one else had this , cos from what i searchd on the net there are quite a lot of ppl who have reported this & with exact symptoms . Scary thing is i have lot of air travel this month & idont know how i will react if it reappears agian . I know i need to see a doc , which i will do in the weekend , but til then ..

I guess its from the change of pressure ,which causes sharp ,and sudden headache specially during descent Still its better to get yourself checked thoroughly .

no sinus issues ' date=' but i did drink/smoke a lot on night before ..& both days i was short of sleep.[/quote'] can you describe the pain? left or right temple? or was it bi-temporal? level of intensity on a scale of 1 to 10...10 being the extreme? any neck stiffness afterwards? any blurred vision? Smoking, drinking & lack of sleep could trigger headaches in areas not fully pressurized

well earlier i also had the same problem in most of the International flights.. some of the flight attendant used to advise to eat chewing gums, but i wasn't useful for me atleast. Last year , luckily i found a solution . I had a small water bottle .. during landing i just sipped water , i found while i was sipping the water i felt relieved ... after every few minutes i used to take a sip .. well the proved to effective... So from that time whenever i used to take a flight i would always ask a small bottle of water from the Air hostess 15-20 mins prior to landing.

iirc it was more on left , my eyes where hurting too ,thot they woud pop out..Jabbing pain in forehead & as though 20-30 needles are passing thru ur head ..as for intensity , thats the worst kind of pain i have ever had ...i was almost in tears . 8/10 i guess . No neck stiffness or blurred vision . but from the link akshay gave , taking a nap could have caused it ..i did sleep almost uptill they anounced of landing, both times . May be that ? dont see the logic though

how bad is the pain ? this is not a regular headache i had .
the pain in my ears used to be unbearable and felt like my head would explode. Its just the pressure..like i said ..chew gum and open and close ur jaws..

^ trying to blow nose, with nose and mouth closed, works best and immediately. In fact, the moment pilot announces "starting descent", I do that 2-3 times or so. Unless of course the pain is due to some medical condition.

I have experienced something similar but not with air flights. It's usually when I am driving through a tunnel. I don't know if it's the darkness or what, it really gives me some headache. Every time when I drive down to NY through Lincoln tunnel or Holland tunnel, i get massive headache. I don't know if it's "all in the mind" or what.

This trick has done wonders to me. Used to have severe pain in ears after take-off and landing At times I would hard at hearing even after two-three hours of landing. I screwed one of my interview because of that . But now this simple trick keeps everything okay.
