Vijay.Sharma Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 BB- I agree . Theres a huge difference between being a realist and backing talk with facts v/s being biased/opinionated. Perhaps this is not the forum for you to discuss serious topics. :dontknow:Although this is a cricket forum and serious topics are probably better off discussed on other forums, the fact that there are separate boards like "Talk Politics", "Nerd Talk", "Chit Chat", etc means that the site is inviting such discussions. Moreover, most of the topics are started off not by the people who have facts and intelligent arguments to support them. The threads are generally opened by some soul who wants to share some new information. People like BB weigh in with their opinions. Pseudo secularists weigh in with their opinions and add some unnecessary ridicule to it. People like BB ask them what is so ridiculous about their arguments. The "open minded" folk respond with more ridicule and strawmen. People like BB get pissed and dish out some of their own. Some good meaning people then question the very logic of having such threads on this forum.

mishra Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 You must realize that the definition of being "Open minded" is quite different over herre at ICF . You are open minded if you are politically correct and run down your own and defend the un-defendable. For example you say things like Sharia is not all that bad you are "Open minded". You Eulogize a medieval barbarian like Tippu you are "Open Minded". Bonus points if you go and claim say RSS = Taliban. In cricket you became a open minded guy if you blindly acknowledged anyone other than an Indian to be the greatest batsman/bowler/AR of All time and then run down any Indian player. Now clearly I wasn't going to do any such thing and was prepared to stand my ground with facts , stats and logic. This is why I built that stats db and went thru a whole lot of cricket videos, researched a whole bunch of Islamic history and their holy texts . So when the usual suspects found themselves on the wrong side of the debate the response was typical : Right winger, looney , bhagwa , chaddidhari and ofcourse : A close minded guy. The newer lot have gone to the next level and claim that I bring the quality of the forum down. Munshi Premchandji wrote a strory called nasha (नशा ). I request you or anyone here who can understand Hindi to read that. The OPEN MINDED hero of the story learns a very valuable lesson about himself.

Ram Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Aarrrggh... How did I miss out Holy..! My memory is failing me. :(( I still remember, back in 2007, when Sachin was going thru that lean period and there were talking heads calling for his axing, Holy and I used to wage prolonged battles in support of the master! We were (and still are) part of the original Sachin bakt club. Its a patently futile exercise to fully document all the names that have left their mark on ICF. And we have had some fantastic additions recently as well.
Prakat Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Oh wow...this thread started as tongue in cheek then somewhere along the way became earnest. Just scrolled up now after seeing above comment and find that whole stretches of the thread have been redacted and even the OP has disappeared and the thread starts with Lurker's who's who post.

Just scrolled up now after seeing above comment and find that whole stretches of the thread have been redacted and even the OP has disappeared and the thread starts with Lurker's who's who post. OP (of the original thread) had been busy trolling on the main forum and lurking out here. Awesome post by Lurker. Crisply written. Created memories of people who I have never met or seen. P.S. OP did start a tongue-in-cheek thread, but is glad that it's deviated into something much more meaningful.

triam Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks guys. Goose I didnt know you have been online circa 1999!You, Sooda ,Yoda and few others have been like those familiar faces in a Bombay train. Always there, wishing you a Hi/Hello asking for a maachis kind. And when those faces go missing the travel just doesnt seem to be the same, does it? Missirji (thats how we call it in Bihar anyway), it is not the consolidated list. There have been quite a few others whose names I forget unfortunately. Holybaba I see what you did there with retirement comment lol. But of course you arent forgotten mate, you are another of those young generation yuppies that gives us all hope. Plus you are one of the rare ones who went back. Now if only you could chuck the whole Apple bandwagon. Going back reminds me of Kabira. There is another one of ATGs. Been around for a long time and always keeps pitching in cricket remaining ever hopeful. He is another one of those I would like to sit for an evening daroo and hear stories about the hijrat from cold freezing weather of North USA to Gujarat. Of course when the discussion would turn to Modi thats when we would go our seperate way! Raghav, there are a lot of newbieswho have taken ICF to the next level. My effort was more around those who started the website and have been around for a while. I am in no way a great let alone an ATG, but I have been iwth ICF from rivals.net times with Shiv Mahajan as the mod, from 99/00 I would think.
