Positives for Tendulkar, Rahane, and the Indian ODI team

Halfway into the series is a good time to assess the positives for Tendulkar, Rahane, and the Indian team by the selectors' decision to send Rahane home without playing a single international match and bring in Tendulkar for the CB series. Maybe the end of the series will be a better time, but at the mid point we can at least give some opinion on the merits of the decision based on the result. For me, it remains one of the most boneheaded, selfish, and short sighted decisions and 5 matches into the series all concerned parties have come out with losses.

I have no doubt in my mind that Tendulkar will come out firing in IPL and at home, and silence all his critics once and for all. After Tendulkar piles on the runs the next 2 years at home proving the adage "form is temporary but class is permanent", he will retire from intl cricket and give opportunities to youngsters like Rahane on away tours

Well anyone can quote Sachin's top innings in Aus as well. It's not as if Tendulkar hasn't done so in the past but now he's past it. If he still wants to continue playing and team management will not drop him anyways, he should at least come out attacking. Sometimes a getting off the block quickly and getting to 20 odd fast gets you in the rhythm and can you can relax and take it easy playing normal cricket. Playing diffidently and defensively right from the start puts you on the backfoot and Aus bowlers won't allow you to get back into the game. The only way he can score some runs in the remaining matches is if he starts playing positively and doesn't care about failing while going for his shots, i.e. Sachin of 90s

Positive for Rahane is that his reputation has increased massively without actually doing anything of note in his ODI career so far.

Like Rohit's reputation got enhanced massively after not getting to play in the Test series. Now it's come down to earth though. :giggle: I am hoping that Rahane would score a few runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Going by his current form and his overall ODI, List-A and T20 averages, it seems highly unlikely. :dontknow:
