ZodiaC Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Just replace Australian pace bowlers with Indian pace bowlers. Doherty will have trouble taking even a single wicket. Our pace bowlers are the biggest culprits When SL chased 283, Doherty conceded some 38 odd or something. Their pace bowlers were crap in that match. He did bowl well in all fairness.

ZodiaC Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 He is from Tassie' date=' home ground :beee:[/quote'] Obviously, it's all good luck :--D Seriously though, you don't have to be a genius to figure the difference. Ashwin seriously got away with a lot of short pitched balls early on today actually. He bowled worse than what his figures seem to indicate. That said, I do think Ashwin should be persisted with, he will hopefully do far better in subcontinent. Not Jaddu though, he should go, despite bowling less worse today.
zaqw222222 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Doherty is a good ODI spinner, very economical. Back on topic, Ashwin had a bad tour like the rest of team so would give him more chances.
asterix Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 We never tried out Ojha in the ODI series..Was Ojha in the ODI squad? If yes the I believe Jaddu ate his place..Would've loved to see how Ojha would've fared in the series.. So because of Jaddu, Ojha's ODI career is as good as over. So we have to rely on Ashwin to deliver but his batting is better than Jaddu.. Basically Jaddu is like what Patel is in the England ODI squad. But Swann still manages to do well, inspite of being an orthodox spinner.. I think Ojha's ODI career is over. He should concentrate on Test cricket..
Ponka Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Ashwin is a pretty average spinner currently, lets face it. He will be taken to cleaners by most teams home or away. However since he's a youngster, he should be persisted with. Few more chances should be given if he can expand his armory or improve on his current one.

ViruRulez Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I like Ashwin but I have always supported Ojha too and have never been sure why he is overlooked and neglected when he has always delivered when given a chance. Both must be rotated to be honest and I do not like this idea of dumping Ojha forever. The only positive Ashwin has over Ojha is his batting but he has not been hitting much match winning knocks either. So, not that big an advantage. And I feel that the oppositions are now starting to understand his carrom ball and its effective has decreased gradually. Except for the carrom ball, I do not see any noticeable advantage of Ashwin over Ojha. Ojha is far more traditional spinner who gets a lot more turn compared to Ashwin in almost all conditions either in India or overseas. In terms of traditional spinner, Ojha is better than Ashwin and I still say that though I like Ashwin too. Both must be given chances and rotated IMO. Ojha is another unlucky bowler who has been unjustly neglected for long irrespective of performances. And sadly we are not producing the world's best spinners as we used to do in the past. We are strong in spin but weak in pace in the past. But now, our bowling as a whole has declined especially the spinners. Pace might have improved a notch but nothing more than that. We have more pacers nowadays but not sure quality has increased a lot either.

punjabi_khota Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 He should lose some pounds, but need to be given more chances.
Dravid_TheWall Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Best Test Spinner-Ojha Best LOI-Bhajji and Ojha both economical although Rahul Sharma deserves a run as he may take more wickets.

Circa 2010, you had said Jaddu finished Mishra's career. In an year's time, Mishra then went onto to finish his own career in England. Hope Ojha doesn't end up with the same fate.

That is debatable. There is no clear winner there. All our bowlers depend on conditions. Bhajj doesn't do well these days even in helpful conditions.

J P K Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 more they play ashwin the more easier it gets they start reading his variation and play him off easily we need to find a long term option
vvvslaxman Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Last 2 years performance from our spinners. Nobody looks so much superior to others. Everyone is there or there abouts. But one thing you notice is Bhajji is the worst when it comes to strike rate. He just doesn't pick up wickets at all.

Bhajj doesn't do well these days even in helpful conditions. In LOI Bhajji is still very good as his darts mean good economy. You can rely on him to get through 10 overs always with good economy and chip in with odd wicket. Not to mention his batting. The only way he will be replaced long term in this format is if a wicket taking spinner emerges. Rahul Sharma deserves a go. In tests Ojha looks most likely to succeed to me. Ashwin is always at the batsmen but to me Ojha seems like a clasical spinner. Less relying on mystery and more on deceiving the batsmen with flight, drfit and degree of turn. I think he will be a stable option for India. Mishra doesn't look good enough to take test wickets not to mention his no ball problem.

Very reason Bhajji was dropped because of his lack of wicket taking skills. Secondly Ashwin outbowled Ojha in the WI series. Also in the warm up match in Australia Ojha was outbowled by Ashwin. Ojha's problem is he is extremely slow in the air and off the pitch. If the pitch has nothing to offer he is fairly easy to negotiate as he doesn't have a good arm ball like Murali Karthik has. Both of them have some short comings. But i would back Ashwin in helpful conditions . He is more potent there. In one dayers Ashwin's big advantage is not just picking up wickets but ability to bowl inside power plays. He is no mug with bat either. Only thing is fielding. In this case Ojha, Ashwin, Bhajji all 3 are crappy fielders.
