Do We Discourage Lethal Bowlers ?

Is Kookabura ball used in ODI's ?[when matches are played in india ] I guess one more reason can be attributed to poor fitness .This is was one of the reason why munaf looked promising initially ,but later he looked like any avg bowler .

Yes. Poor fitness is another reason. Our fast bowlers are not as strong as likes of Siddle, Harris, Hilfy, Broad, Bresnan, Tremlett, etc, physically. We still are in old days of not doing gym work enough to gain muscle strength.

First up, players like Ashwin, Munaf etc should NEVER be spoken of in a serious bowlers thread. Secondly if you are looking for the reasons here may be why: a) We have never had the luxury of two great bowlers at the same time. The only exception was the era of 4 spinners. Kumble, Kapil & Subhas Gupte are 3 bowlers who could have easily been lot more lethal if they had decent support at the other end. This is similar to the case of Wesley Hall from West Indies who was considered widely lethal but still averaged 27 for lack of btter support but atleast he had Roy Gilchrist and Sobers. b) We are a lazy nation. This is more truth than sarcasm. Bowling, specially fast bowling, is tons of hard work. Bishen Singh Bedi, our greatest left arm spinner, took to spin because he was fat and wanted to lose weight! What does that tell you?? How many Indian players you know of were bundles of energy growing up and kept running forever till they became fast bowlers? How come we have Tendulkars batting at 5 years, Sunny batting at 6 and manage to find children photos of Dravids etc but never find such for a fast bowler? Only exception is Kapil who would run forever. c) We tend to live in denial about bowling riches. Our biasedness helps us to close eyes. Fairly recently Dravid made a matter-of-fact statement about Shoaib Akhtar. This was used by blind Indian fans to have a go at Akhtar. Never mind the fact that Shoaib still averages in 25 with a strike rate of low 40s in test cricket....far far ahead of all of our bowlers!! What does that say about us as fans? I do beleive the issue is lot more cultural and lot less about talent and nurturing.

I think the Indian attack in the future will be good. Ishant Sharma is a good fast bowler with pace and bounce. He just needs more luck, maybe he tries too much. Stuart Broad couldn't even buy a wicket and was almost dropped 6 months ago now look at him wickets in England summer and UAE. Harbhajan was also a very good bowler but too much ODIs and IPL ruined his bowling. Lost his doosra lost his guile. He is a good bowler when in form, I hope he does well and makes a comeback after the next Ranji season. Umesh Yadav is an exciting young bowler with loads of potential. As he becomes more experienced he will convert the potential into success. The future looks bright!

I think it's not a question of lethal but that we have frowned upon unconventional bowlers and chuckers. That's why we never had bowlers like Murali, Akhtar, Ajmal or Malinga (Malinga being unconventional & not a chucker). IMO Indians should do the same as what our neighbors do and find bowlers with so called "deformities" as it would ensure we are not at a disadvantage facing other teams who have an army of such bowlers.

Batsmen are idolized in India even though most of them never amounted to any wins especially overseas . Fast bowling is hard work and Indians by nature are lazy, and few youngsters who want to become fast bowlers are discouraged by coaches with line and length bull crap. Those few who overcome all the hurdles while growing up lose their sting and aggression after a season.There are many reasons for this but in my opinion these two are most important fear of getting injured and docile tracks. The bowlers once they are in limelight know they cannot make money or have place in the team if they are injured so they bowl with in themselves to avoid injuries. There is no encouragement for these bowlers to bowl fast on the docile and merciless tracks which are so loaded in favor of batsmen. These tracks are hurting Indian cricket most.Most batsmen are just becoming FTBs and have no fricking clue how to play on pitches offering some assistance to fast bowlers. The recent pathetic and shameful display of our batsmen is the reason why we were 0-8. I don't blame bowlers at all.

As India will develop and GDP per capita increases India will become a world class sporting nation and the best cricket nation. China rises, there sport team rises, Russia economy falls there sports fall (used to get atleast 30 gold medals all the time). Now India is on the rise there sports teams will be much better in future. India will be a dominating world number 1 in cricket when the Kohli generation is at it's prime. India does not have many sport clubs like foreign countries, many talented players go unnoticed playing street cricket. That will change. More money will be invested in sports that's all that is needed nothing else.

It is always somebody else, some other era who is going to deliver. Notice the consistent use of "will" and future tense. Get off your bums and start jogging, maybe we can unearth some fast bowlers that way :giggle:

Munaf and Mithun can never be considered exciting. Harbhajan was exciting for a series or two. The man had his moments but he is one of those bowlers who one looks at and goes - Jeez how did he get those many wickets?
