indiaregulator Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Just a thought. The guy is 27, and has amassed 7000 test runs. Barring any sort of dip in form and ability, if we extrapolate, by the time his career has ended he should have around 14000 runs? What do you guys think? One of the greatest openers ever?
Laaloo Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 No he won't. He hasn't come out of the closet yet. Once he does, he will stop scoring. I still think he has a "thing" for barbie and anderson
Pagalpanti Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 You could say he's set up perfectly to make it big in test cricket and surely end up with 13-14k runs if he plays till 37. But a lot of things come into picture. Test crickets future, his form, injuries etc..
Cricket Tragic Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 No he won't. He hasn't come out of the closet yet. Once he does' date=' he will stop scoring.[b'] I still think he has a "thing" for barbie and anderson

Second youngest cricketer to score 20 centuries in test cricket. Actually only cricketer after Sachin to get to have 20 tons at this age. Max age 27 No code has to be inserted here. No he won't. He hasn't come out of the closet yet. Once he does' date=' he will stop scoring. I still think he has a "thing" for barbie and anderson[/quote'] He is best FTB England has produced in last 15 years or so. Since almost all countries have flat tracks so he will continue to score.
MechEng Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I seriously doubt it..... Ponting had a much bigger chance than Cook to overtake SRT, but his decline couldn't help him achieve that. It will be very very difficult to maintain the hunger for runs if Cook wants to come to anywhere clode to 14k mark and 50 Test tons. If he has the strong desire or will power to score massive, he may have the chance.
panther Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 dravid yes srt no because srt will play for another 3-4 years.

If he has the strong desire or will power to score massive, he may have the chance. He won't have to maintain it for like 20 years to do that. He can play for another 10 years to get anywhere close to top run scorers. Consistency isn't only problem. Many players don't get 130+ matches easily to score so many runs. Advantage with cook is that he is just 27 and played 80 tests in 6 years. No code has to be inserted here. Compare this with Cook's average of 13.3 test matches per year. He might complete his 100 tests in just 8 years!
velu Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Cook might get closer to 50 centuries or 15k runs. But sachins 100 100s will be safer. But if anyone can break it soon , it has to be cook.

MechEng Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I don't care if Cook goes past Sachin in stats. Our Sachin will always be the same irrespective of his stats. If not Cook, there may be an XYZ player in 2050 who might score 20k Test runs, you never know...But Sachin will always be remembered for his contribution to cricket world. It was his presence which transformed our nation into a cricket crazy one which even Kapil Dev or Gavaskar couldn't do.
