deathmonger Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Question was valid.. Why couldnt have we won in 40 overs? We very well knew that bonus point was needed? There were no unknowns in the chase.. Ball was coming on bat. Rohit Sharma and Virat together could have paced the inning accordingly. ?????? no one knew bangbros would defeat sl. in hobart bonus point was a necessity. here we could have done it without a bonus point.
Crookbond Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 no one knew bangbros would defeat sl. in hobart bonus point was a necessity. here we could have done it without a bonus point. +1 Both were different situations. Why restrict winning against Pakistan with a bouns point? We could've won against SL with bonus point, to avoid this situation. :D

Read below. ++ When we had a precedence, just couple of weeks old, why didn't we even attempt to ensure the place in the finals - by trying best for the bonus point. It was flat track anyway.

I have been cribbing that whole match that we should have tried to win with a bonus point to more or less ensure that we go through.
akshayxyz Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 cos while going for win in 40 overs we could ve lost the match too then kick out of asia cup garunteed In the end, we won comfortably with 6 wickets!! we should have tried accelerating much much earlier. We lost a bit of momentum from 23rd over onwards. (someone was playing for personal 100). At least one of Rohit/Kohli should have taken risk before 30th over. We had a long and explosive batting line up to follow - Dhoni,Pathan+Pathan.

Ajmal was Pakistan's best bowler, Kohli/Rohit should have scored at least 80 runs against him. At least try to.

After that we could have reassessed the situation. With Yusuf and Dhoni to follow, and power play in hand - we could have finished it off by 40.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Tourney rules and format are decided before the tournament and they are same for everyone. It was India's fault - pure and simple, not the rules or format. We shoul dhave won a game by a bonus point or beaten B'desh. We didn't and we are out and deservedly so.
akshayxyz Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 how about score 360 runs in the first 10 overs lol.. we get 4 bonus points :cantstop: Do we have a precedence ? Highest record of 6 runs per ball is about for just six balls. Besides, losing wicket of the second ball, we needed to consolidate.
Tiger80 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Bonus point and head to head records are crap,Only net runrate should be condidered for qualification in tournament like Asia cup where you just get 1 chance to play with other team

So probability wise we had a better chance - to try a shot at bonus point.

In that match Viru made 18 ball 40 runs. Did Sachin play an innings like that?

Did Sachin play an innings like that? Sachin played almost exactly the way he played in Hobart. It was Gambhir's job to replicate Viru. Besides as you already showed by numbers, best bowlers usually crumble in crucial games, especially against Kohli, he should have given it a try in overs from 23-30. I did not see any such intent. I think we are zeroing in on the actual culprit - Gambhir, Kohli ,Rohit.
