ViruRulez Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 MUMBAI: Nineteen hookah smokers and four staff members of a hookah parlour were booked following raid by the city police at a restaurant in suburban Khar, police said today. A television actress was also found sitting in the restaurant at the time of raid but she was allowed to go without any fine as she was not smoking hookah, police said refusing to divulge her name. On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the social service branch of city police conducted raid on the Kosmic Restrobar Hukka Parlour where 17 men and two women were found smoking hookah. All the patrons were rounded up and taken to the Khar police station along with the parlour staff. They were subsequently booked under relevant sections of the Tobacco Act and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Act. And it's not some archaic law, hookahs were banned from restaurants very recently - soon after the law banning smoking in public places.

coffee_rules Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I had smoked Hookah in a bar in Hyd last year. It had some kind of a supari flavor too, was like smoking a menthol based cig (remember Cool). Didn't know it was illegal.

It was idiotic when it was introduced. Hookahs in Mumbai restaurants were quite an attraction and none of them had strong tobacco dosage. Some idiot in a powerful position thought it was a good idea to ban them.

Jai Ho Indian laws and lawmakers. :hatsoff: NB: Most laws are good too. So, not saying about every law but there are many which are purely idiotic laws in the modern era. :D

Haha, doesn't matter, does it? I still take the FLAVORED(not alcohol base) one. It's still available in many places like Purple, Galleria. :dance: I am talking about Gurgaon, btw.
Prakat Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 a lot of police time is being expended on these raids. it started with one that caught vivek oberoi red-handed - he was the WHO's or some other intl' agencies' anti smoking champion. And the next one the State Health Minister's son was caught. Going by these reports there does seem to be some reason to this madness.
