Crookbond Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I haven't seen this match but vs India I don't remember afganistan bowling badly or feeling that indian batsman were letting them off the hook. I don't know maybe England are just better batsman at T20. Or maybe Afghanistan just had a fluke match against India? The last time India beat England in a T20 is in Durban 2007. We have lost 3 matches to England across the world.
carnish Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Indian Batsmen Practice Big Shots The booming drives, the ferocious cuts and the lofted shots were the order of the day at the Indian team's training session today as batsmen concentrated on taking the aerial route after a subdued start to the World Twenty20 against Afghanistan. If one takes a close look at the Indian batting card in their opening game against Afghanistan, the champions of the 2007 edition could hit only four sixes, and that too against an inexperienced attack. Virat Kohli hit two while there was just one each for Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kohli's second six, in fact, could have ended in a catch had the fielder stationed at the deep mid-wicket not made a mess of it. No wonder, each and every batsman decided to go all out during the gruelling three-hour training session at the P Sara Oval ground here, two days ahead of the big-ticket encounter against defending champions England. From Gautam Gambhir to Irfan Pathan, everyone seemed to be in a mood to clear the ropes whether while facing the bowlers at the nets or while receiving throwdowns. It seemed the aim was to compensate for the lack of big ones against the minnows the other night. In contrast, the Indian bowlers again looked lacklustre as Zaheer Khan, L Balaji and Irfan Pathan were taken to the cleaners by Dhoni and company. The drill was simple -- each and every batsman faced throwdowns from Trevor Penney and Joe Dawes before going to the nets. The instructions seemed to be clear -- go for the maximum. While the batsmen played the big shots, the bowlers looked like going through the motion. Zaheer, who has copped a lot of flak of late for being out of sorts, didn't look in his element. 'Zak', as he is popularly known in the dressing room, was singled out by Dhoni who tried his trademark 'helicopter shot' time and again. http://cricketnext.in.com/live/news/indian-batsmen-in-aggressive-mode/67954-13.html
carnish Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Zak is pathetic even in the nets ... :phehehe:
Number Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I don't think so. England were a little bit more patient than some of our openers - Gambhir/Sehwag (who is so impatient it looks like he was even born early!). The one thing you need to realize is that the fundamentals of the game remain the same. The lesser known teams would come up with certain moments of brilliance but once you hang in there for some time (even in a format like T20) things can change. England were just a little bit more patient and when things didn't happen for Afghanistan they panicked and tried to do something different. Surely 1 did help England but come Sunday that should (and I hope would) not be any excuse for it. :cantstop: I agree that Gambhir Sehwag didn't do well and wanted to dominate them from ball one, but their death bowling was better against us. I think we'd have scored more than 160.. around 180 if they bowled these kind of half-volleys. Some of the yorkers were pretty good, today I hardly saw any.
G_B_ Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I would practise shots of the back foot and the pull/hook against the short ball based on what they are going to face. Worrying times for Zaheer and our bowling in general. Maybe it might be time to drop him and play Dinda.

The reason they bowled so awfully against England in the end was because Wright put the pressure right up their **** by counter attacking them. We did not have someone who could or would have done that for us.
maniac Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 India will Still beat England on these pitches 9/10 times....We generally raise our level propotional to the opposition. This Indian T20 team is bad but still we can't use Ind and England's games against Afg as a yardstick Srilanka are generally the best Minnow-bashing team ever....Ind,Pak and ususally England are always vulnerable to minnows.
SLICKR392 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Even our batsmen are taking our bowlers to the dhobi ghat :giggle:
G_B_ Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Get ready for a barrage of short balls from England while our bowlers will be **** as usual. Unless the batsman like Kohli etc bail us out along with our spinners this is not going to look good for India
vvvslaxman Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Even our batsmen are taking our bowlers to the dhobi ghat :giggle: When in form our batsmen can murder most of the bowlers in the world. Sadly nobody bar Kohli is in form. Especially while chasing we are still great.
G_B_ Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 and england have shown exactly where to be bowl at afghanistan. they have not pitch it up but rather gone for the back of a length/short route which is exposing the Afghani batsman badly. Indian bowlers should have realised this and made the proper adjustments. Especially a supposedly senior bowler like Zaheer. Yet for some reason he simply kept pitching it up.

G_B_ Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 who is our bowling coach and what is he doing to remedy the situation anyways? there is no improvement in our bowlers.

We don't have the pace to bowl short of of a length...at the pace our trundlers bowl, the best chance they have is to pitch the ball....they did use the bouncer for dot balls as Afg batsman had no technique to play them but it will be cannon fodder against most teams The best we can do is pitch the ball and pray that it swings
SLICKR392 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 who is our bowling coach and what is he doing to remedy the situation anyways? there is no improvement in our bowlers. Stop blaming the bowling coaches FFS! We have had many, none had made any difference, pretty much reveals our bowlers attitude.

Its not a typical south asian pitch. This pitch is similar to what you might find in australia.

This pitch is similar to what you might find in australia. The pitch we played against them also had some good swing and bounce with the new ball. Our bowlers are utter CRAP!! @beating England. Am not worried about how we struggled against Afghan and these guys hammered them...we have fair chance against them and it stops there, should start to stop dreaming about the cup.
G_B_ Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Stop blaming the bowling coaches FFS! We have had many' date=' none had made any difference, pretty much reveals our bowlers attitude.[/quote'] so dont hire a bowling coach cause if its not making any difference lets not hire one. The problem is similar cracks in the Indian armour keep on appearing. The short ball while batting and crappy bowlers. Its the same with MRF pace academy. Did not produce anything. Simply a means to earn money for the people running it.
NareshK Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 They should have picked Umesh Yadav with the way wickets are behaving in SL but I hope Zaheer gets back to his best or at least try Dinda in the next game. There is no other alternative.
