someone Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 5 Days have gone, we might a fair idea about the teams. Here's my thought Kings XI Punjab- Probably the only way they will win any match is by a one-off individual performances. Such as a great innings by Gilly, or the likes of Valtharty(insert name) KKR- Have good squad depth but lack any composure and have always shown to crumble under pressure. Again rely on individual brilliance from their impact players at least in batting. Pune- Great spin bowlers, good captain. But lacks the firepower at opening batting. Mumbai Indians- Good all round team, with the best bowling unit. But lacks a bit of stability with their batting order. DC- Arguably the weakest batting team in this IPL. But can be provided with early breakthrough with Steyn. RR- Never good on paper but properly the best functional team with each person having a specific role instead of having star players. Home Comfort CSK- Past winners. Have a good number of players who can bat and bowl. But the lack of form of their Indian batsman is a concern. DD- Looks good on paper and have good batting lineup. But a lack of spinners and slower bowlers is a major problem. RCB- AVB+ VK+CG are in form players. Have good legends as their spin bowlers. However concern to their other batsman such as Tiwary and Pujara have yet to show much.
bulbul Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 RCB except for the 3 mentioned rest of the batsmen are just to fill the numbers...i think even punjab or DC have more number of batsman if you see in top 7
youngindia Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 RCB has invested heavily in youngsters.this will cause pain in the short term but will work long term. this has partly backfired due to the fact that striking the ball cleanly and shotmaking is not a forte of the young.these skills tend to improve with age and experience. that's why their batting lineup seems brittle if gayle fails. however kohli has improved by leaps and bounds this year.pujara may also have point to prove. RCB's long term investment is sound if the youngster mature, stay with RCB and give back the returns. tiwary, pujara are better positioned to go on to higher levels at this moment. mayank will take much more time.
someone Posted April 8, 2012 Author Posted April 8, 2012 tiwary, pujara are better positioned to go on to higher levels at this moment. mayank will take much more time. Pujara role has definitely confused me. Clearly not good to fit the powerful middle order as ultimately he does not offer much firepower especially in the last overs. So Pujara is sent as a opener instead of Mayank despite Mayank being an actual opener. Perhaps Mayank offering a better firepower means he will be rotated to suit Pujara. But Pujara himself even as a opener is just to fill in the spaces.
Needforspeed Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 On paper RCB is a very strong team... Dilshan, Gayle, Kohli & ABD are a dream combination, but somehow in actual match situations they struggle when Gayle fails. Their Medium pacers are also very unpredictable. Can suddenly get smashed around.

diga Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 next 2 matches for RCB are against a desperate KKR & an away game against CSK.. Will bring out the character of Pujara/Mayank/Tiwary
bulbul Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 next 2 matches for RCB are against a desperate KKR & an away game against CSK.. Will bring out the character of Pujara/Mayank/Tiwary MAyank will hit atleast 1 six :winky: Tiwary who knows played well against CSK in disastrous final so may continue no hopes for Pujara though.. all 3 played lot of matches for RCB dont know how things will chage now one good thing for us is ABDV in fine form..if Kohli and Gayle joined him we will be fine i guess
velu Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 CSKs pace bowling is weak ( apart from Bollinger ) , morkel and bravo are no different than trundlers.. RCBs local batting is weak ( except kohli ) , tiwary and agarwal are passengers
someone Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 CSKs pace bowling is weak ( apart from Bollinger ) , morkel and bravo are no different than trundlers.. But I guess that could be said of every other team. You simply do not need a large number of quality pace bowlers in your team to succeed in India. If you have good spinners, should be good enough.

someone Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 No :mi: ahve superb pace bowling attack..even backup is very good.. to certain extent KKR also have good pace bowling line up as Veku mentioned Both :rcb: and :csk: dont have good pace bowlers and back up also doesnt inspire much again debatable as MI does not have superb pace attack as clearly only one pacer stands out. So really no team have a good pace attack from both sides. Maybe as I said because you do not need a lot of pace bowlers in India. Especially as many teams open bowling with spinners.

someone Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 chk the bolwing stats for IPL 2011 Last time I checked it is now IPL 2012. And there are new players in many teams so previous records does not mean much. MI have the best pace bowler but that does really mean that they have a superb bowling attack. Just to make it clear, MI have have the good bowling attack compared with other teams but that does not suddenly mean they have a superb bowling attack. There is a difference between relative good and just simply superb.

someone Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 ^^^ Last time I checked RP Singh has yet to take any matches for MI so a bit useless for you to talk about his most number of wickets. And you do realize that one single bowler does not make a bowling attack superb. Just as you said CSK have bollinger who is excellent while others are questionable or decent at best. I would say the same can be implied to MI and even to the rest of the teams.

I would say the same can be implied to MI and even to the rest of the teams i guess u didnt read original posts from me and Velu we are talking about Pace bowling only not over all bowling.. in last IPL Malinga took 28 wickets and Munaf 22 wickets both had very good economy rate also..if this is not Superb pace bowling attack what else?? by the way 3rd in list is Arvind (21 wkts 8 ER) but he is not even played this year)
asterix Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Still early days but PWI bowling attack appears to be the most balanced and potent... We need to see how the PWI batsmen go about chasing a score. They're very good in defending a score...
