The reason of that rotation policy was this fellow, Rohit, and what did result did he give? No hate for Rohit but Virat is way way ahead of him IMHO. And please don't bring out BS IPL stats.

We only judge talents of players based on how well they play shots with flourish. That is just one side of it. Rightnow his majority of the achievements are in IPL. Yes he got the knack of how to play t20 games. I give him that. But that should not be a reason enough to conclude "he got everything except temperament". Soon Sangakkara is going to rate dhawan ahead of Kohli and Rohit :cantstop:
rkt.india Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 @VVS certainly 8 years ago when Dhawan first came into limelight, he was as talented as a young Indian batsman as you can find, even better than likes of Gambhir, was highest run getter in U19 WC, his batting was sublime and superior for that age, had 3 100s in that WC. His backfoot game was superb. He was full of natural talent on show at that time. But as I said earlier, talent alone doesnt enaure success, rather its the mental makeup which makes or break a player, consistent improvement in the game, tenacity, like Kohli did. Kohli too faltered at the start, but he understood what it takes to be successful and came back well.

In some sense, cricket and bollywood are similar as certainly there could be better actors/cricketers out there, but with some luck, certain people only get the chance. After all, there is little difference between many of the cricketers.

After seeing Dhawan's performance and his talent in U19 wc, i had thought he will soon be in Indian team as he was doing well in FC as well but I think selectors him and that proved bane for him, his peogress halted as he must have felt disappointed.

In One dayers we had surplus of openers. Gauti, Tendulkar, VIru. He got his chances.. when he got he didn't grab it with both hands. So you can't do much. It all depends on which position you are fighting for. If you are a middle order batsman there is a great chance to get into Indian side with Yuvi out of action.

Gambhir was snubbed for Uthappa in 2007 squad and he was devastated at that time. But what a comeback, after 6-7 months he played a lone-hand to win world T20 final. And never looked back since then. I pray that Rohit follows the same path. (after 2011- world cup snub)

Shikhar Dhawan's tally of runs in U19 wc is still a record, his 3 100s is still a recrod. LIke Yuvraj was drafted into the Indian team so early, I had expected same in his case because he was notch any of the batsman in that U19 team and that team had likes of Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Uthappa, RP Singh, etc. I am not saying he should be in the Indian team right now because he has not progressed as much he should have since then. He got static and other than he has not done well when got his chances. I just wanted to say how temperament is more important than talent. So many talented players have not done justice to their talents. I had always thought Dhawan was more talented than Gambhir, but Gambhir had the grit and determination which made him the player he is now.

However, the openers spot seem very congested with fierce competition. So the question would be if he will be able to adapt to other positions as welll
