Most of the UP understands this which I believe will give a handsome return of about 50 seats. They have seen enough to know what voting for SP, BSP means - status quo. BSP will be saved by its dalit votebank which can bring about 18 seats. SP is available for being taken to the cleaners. Cong no way in hell can repeat the previous 2009 seat no. Won't be congress anyway what so ever. If the worst scenario as enlightened above does come to light, it will be a 96-98 redux. Question is can we afford that hit seeing the amount of external enemies and their internal collaborators rearing their ugly head. If we look closely, west is nearly prepped up for Modi rule. California univ. study centre, Yale's monetary help to Pankaj Mishra (next Arundhati Roy) are just some steps and there is no shortage of traitors in India itself.

And What exactly has likes Rahul Gandhi, Kejriwal, Advani, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Mamata, Jaya achieved? A better picture would can be provided if relative performance in the last 12 years is given under Modi and his government. Before Modi took over, Gujarat's social indicators were ranked alongside some of the BIMARU states.

While I am not disputing any of the figures, Gujarat cannot be compared to Maharashtra yet. Maharashtra continues to be a much more advanced state in terms of economic development as well as human resource development because of many visionaries that have led the state since independence. It also has the financial capital of the country. So, Maharashtra already had a head-start over Gujarat when Modi took over as CM. Modi has concentrated on economic development and infrastructure. When these goals are met, human resource development inevitably follows. One comment I do want to make on the infant mortality rate. Unfortunately, this is more a cultural issue rather than a political one. Please don't interpret this the wrong way, but most of the Gujratis I have come across have a preference for having a son and often daughters are frowned upon. Maharashtrians relatively speaking have more acceptance towards a girl child. Even the report seems to indicate that.

Supporters will obviously ask Modi to contest there due to the overall benefits. Why should Laljee & MM should so adamant get same seats?why cant they discuss in party meeti gs? Why does Modi want to contest from Varanasi? Is it because its a safe seat or because of the symbolism of Kashi/Hinduism?

The reason has nothing to do with symbolism. It is just because the only area where the confidence of BJP is low is the Eastern UP. And BJP wants Modi to fight from that area to boost the morale of the karyakarta.
